I use ratchet straps, if you get them tight you can't even feel it when another boat comes past. Great, but perhaps best avoided if one is mooring in the Baarth area.

Plenty of hand ringing going on over that - I’ll break ranks though - if it’s pilled both sides I can’t see much wrong there, doubt he’s over 4mph (if someone can be bothered to time it and work it you’ll have the answer - I can’t and won’t!) vast lengths of the GU were pilled to allow the working boats to get a lick on, most of it done way back in the 1930’s. Still, like Pavlov’s dog, most boaters are conditioned to shout slow down at every given opportunity - including on rivers with a 7 mph speed limit 😡🤦🏼♂️

I've been grumbled at coming up the Aire and Calder Navigation, East of Stanley Ferry. It's wide and deep, piled, I draw .5m, just ripples against the bank. Didn't have time to stop and explain fluid dynamics.
