So you used 25% of your capacity (150Ah)? Is that likely to be an average day's worth of consumption? I ask because I think I use between 90-120Ah in a day, so I expected you would use more than 150Ah. With the ability to charge at 130 amps, you've built a system which would be ideal for an intermittent cruiser like myself, who cruises maybe one day on three or four, and sometimes stops for 10 days, depending on commitments and local facilities etc. Being able to throw 130Ah into the batteries in an hour would be great for someone in my current position, and when the solar power is poor. The solar really helps minimise engine charging in my case, but come Oct/Nov I'm going to have to run the engine for 90-120 mins a day, and to cut down on my power usage a bit. I've already started to consider the solar charging as a factor in where I moor. At the moment I'm snuck in between two boats (still 20 yards from each mind), because further on there's lots of space, but also lots of trees overhanging that will ruin the solar...

Well that 150Ah was between about 4pm and 09:30 the next day, so not a full 24 hrs. In the remaining 6.5 hours I guess the fridge and inverter would use another 15Ah or so. The electric kettle for lunchtime tea another 15Ah. So with our cavalier power usage maybe 180Ah per 24hrs. The 130A was with a hot engine and hot engine bay. I think with a cold engine it would hold a much higher current for the first 30 mins or so, and then of course there is the travelpower and 100A Combi. Well actually it doesn’t seem able to output anything like 100A continuously. At 10 years old maybe it’s full of dust and needs a clean out to assist cooling.

I understand the point is to use free energy, but to obtain the free energy and utilise it you have spent a shit load of money.

Because as you point out everything has a price. It’s about using less hydrocarbons, you know actually burning less shit.

I did wonder. I could do if I could be bothered to form it into briquettes and drying it. Making it into compost is honourable, a lot better than using clean fresh water to flush it into an overloaded sewer system.
