Yes I am aware of HMS Hood and whom the ship was named for. Interesting point though. Are you ex-RN?

If money was available in suitable amounts have you seen a boat in a poorly state you would like to throw money at? Thinking about that big old motoryacht down at Burnham on Crouch. The one I would like is this rather pleasing old tug boat down near Brentford. I'm not sure if it will survive or be scrapped but it would make a great boat to convert to a luxury expedition yacht It's a wicked boat. Needs a lot of money spending on it but I bet that would be a great project. That particular boat I believe is abandoned as the council turfed people off the moorings and claimed possession of boats left behind. That's as I understand it anyway may be wrong. At low tide you can see under the back. The stern gear on it is incredible. A proper ship that is and not unreasonably large. A nice looking boat, I don’t think I’d trust those pillings though. Oh and by the way it’s Hiab not Hi-ab.

It would be a continuous cruiser if it were mine. Somewhere around Cannes. Hydrauliska Industri AB. I reckon HI-AB works ok in this situation Of course it might not be one of their units it could be a Palfinger for all I know but the generic term is quite common.

It’s a trade name so I would say Hiab is correct. But then what do I care.

You seem to be concerned about it.
I don't think it's that important.
Next time I am down near that lovely tug I will try to get a picture of the stern gear.
It's really nice stern gear. Proper quality. I don't know where the boat comes from. It's not similar at all to ordinary Thames tugs it has a bit of an icebreaker type look maybe from Soviet Union or something.
It's a proper boat. Owned by Hounslow council I believe.
Maybe the dog outline on the bows is a giveaway.
I believe you can tell a lot about a boat from the externally visible parts of the stern gear.

maybe from Soviet Union or something. Just because it has a red star...nah...maybe the engine type would be a giveaway...and I'd say that's a wulerf.

AB / OY = 'Ltd.'
Ever heard of Abloy keys/locks? Guess how that name came about? AB - L - OY L stands for 'lukko' which is 'lock' in English.

You seem to be concerned about it. I don't think it's that important. Just a rare opportunity to play at your favourite game, pedantry. I’d be more concerned about those wooden pillings it’s moored to. As for the star isn’t that a common design on Dutch boats?

Yes a lot of Dutch barges have a star on them usually a cast item screwed on rather than painted. It could be Dutch. It's got the "what a pretty boat" thing which a lot of Dutch boats have. I think from further east though .
