I wonder how easy it would be for a leader to just resign because they wanted to. What happens if you just don't fancy the job any more, too stressful? Can you just leave or do you have to do something to encourage others to make you leave. Leaders do resign sometimes but my theory is that to become a leader at that level you must have a pretty big ego and be VERY thick skinned. Trust me, I've worked with quite a few lead guitarists.

No, she is a dangerous fascist. Dangerous because she is very good at public speaking and conning her electorate. It depresses me how so many people don’t see the dangers of nationalism and how history (from the 1930s) is repeating itself. Personally I'd be quite sad if Scotland became independent, but if it turned out better for them and for the UK, then perhaps why not? I think this is an astute argument. But it might not turn out to be better in which case it would be bad.

And of course if they did get it, the first thing they’d want to do is rejoin the EU and transfer a lot of power back to Brussels. Seems daft to me! We rather dislike the U.K. government because most ministers don’t seem to have many good attributes. That is the best we could find out of a very large pool. In Scotland, the pool is much smaller. Whilst Nicola, and Alex before her, are (unfortunately) top notch politicians, the rest of them with very few exceptions are just a bunch of thick chavs. This is why Scotland’s health and education, police and other services, once excellent, have long since become dreadful post-devolution. Just a minor rant on the centralisation of the police into 1 force on Scotland, Jeff witnessed some drunken yobs harassing a homeless/beggar person on Union Street. Aberdeen is Scotland’s third largest city, Union Street is the main and most famous shopping street, the heart of Aberdeen. But when Jeff called the police (non-emergency number) the operator, based in the central belt, said she couldn’t find a “Union Street” in Aberdeen and could he describe to her where it was? It took several minutes for her to identify it.

But it might not turn out to be better in which case it would be bad. That's why I wonder whether when we get very close votes on stuff like Scotish nationalism, Brexit etc it's actually an indicator of how close we are to the optimum balance in the present. Maybe rather than see near 50/50 votes as an indicator of severe division, maybe it just shows how much as a nation we are unsure. I do believe there is an optimum size for most things, finding it is the hardest thing.

That's a good point, although you'd think Scotland could be fairly self sufficient...at least with the basics.

I've got the Madonna song in my head now but it doesn't quite compute.

It took several minutes for her to identify it. This is more common than you think. I once tried to report a violent assault to 999. The girl who answered the phone was unable to find the very well-known street. It wasn't in her database. I hung up and called back - I got through to the same girl. I gave up. Thugs 1, ordinary folk nil.

They have never been good at finding places: one of my gripes was that even a standard grid reference was no good : controllers were unable to translate that into a unique numerical one, which their mapping system uses. Reminds me of the time Leamington Lift Bridge stuck in a partially raised position (crap design of sensors, not rectified) and I phoned the Scottish Canals Emergency number. Got through to the Police Control Room in Inverness. Might be a bit of a problem re-joining the EU : open land border with the rest of the UK for starters, plus no chance of as good a deal as we had.

Bassplayer
Depends if you consider 6ft being short, and I’m hardly dumpy you sandal wearing dwarf. As for being shouty, I tend to speak up, one because I’m deaf, and two because no fucker else will. 😂
If after all that you are in fact referring to my fat boat, it’s not my fault you only have a sewer tube.
If after all that, you are in fact referring to my Willy, you need to accept some men are men.
