I add redex diesel once every six weeks or so, and m16 twice during winter. The redex also helps keep the webasto clean. I have a water separator filter in-line which I check about once a month. So far so good, so I stick with that little routine.

After the serious trouble I had with bug when coming up the coast, I use a biocide at each fill up. Originally I used Marine 16 but because of the cost I looked around and for the last 2 years have been using Hydra multi biocide. www.hydra-fueladditives.com/fuel-treatment-products.html

Sounds like a sensible approach bedruthan; think will imitate; just purchased these products; perhaps this is why my websato has packed up again? And why my newly installed stove has stopped working? (twice). Needs a clean out.

Now you’ve reminded me, I’ll see if I can get some from Amazon. Marine 16 is getting stupidly expensive.

I put some Miller's EcoMax in from time to time but I don't think it prevents bug. It supposedly cleans the injectors but whether it does or not I have no way of telling. My car is also diesel and every so often it develops a flat spot, I believe because the MAF sensor gums up and half a tank of premium diesel ( about 25ppl more than regular diesel) definitely shows a marked improvement. Doubt it Mass Air Flow sensor is in the air intake, more than likely cleaning the injectors

JohnV, starting to wonder if I have it now, can you tell me, when you had it happen, did it mean cleaning the tank and the filters or did adding the M16 alone resolve it? Thanks. T.

Well you would certainly need to clean / replace the filters. The M16 kills it, it doesn’t remove the carcasses! You might or might not have to clean the tank depending on how bad the infection is.

Thanks, think I'd better wait for the engineer, just seems like a possibilty, now that the diesel stove and websato is not working, they're on seperate systems but both draw from the main fuel tank. My neighbour said my fumes have been a bit smokey too. Crying. Thanks. T.

twiggy ^^^^ this. If it is bad there will be a lot of black slime in the filters, If you can, you probably should empty the tank, take the lid off (assuming there is one) and get the muck out (I used a wet and dry vac) then wipe the inside of the tank clean with a biocide. If you have a fair bit of diesel in the tank and you don't want to empty it then you could try running with fresh filters (after treating with a heavy dose of chemical) and seeing how you get on. If it blocks up quickly then you know you will have to bite the bullet. You can get your fuel "polished" but it's not cheap or you can build a system to do it (which is what I did, also not cheap but I had over 700 litres of contaminated diesel) If you want to build your own filter system then there is a suggested system on the ASAP web site

Thanks JohnnyV; yes, I just broke my back a few days ago filling the thing full to the brim, 250l tank with tubs on foot; still in recovery now! In fact I think that was my back swearing at me again just now, it has a foul little mouth indeed atm! Will try filters and treatment first then. Sigh. T.x
