Fit a remote pump switch which can be controlled from your phone or similar and switch the pump on whenever a guest is in the shower. Or Assuming that the light is on when the shower is in use fit a switch controlled from the light.
All of the above to be in addition to a manual switch in the shower location.

I find the modern fashion for fitting shallow shower trays very odd. In stepsons house the wall and floor are damp as despite the wall being fully tiled as the shower drain is slow it sometimes overtops the tray. A deeper tray would cure the problem as would better drainage. I had a walk in shower tray fitted..initially the fall away not sufficient to drain any water and very shallow. Its been re fitted and most of the water drains but do have to assist with my foot.. Its not deep enough as quite often water goes over esp if grandson showers.. In hindsight not my best decision..love the walk in principle but the tray is rubbish

The mother-in-law has just had her bathroom refitted and the fitter installed a different outlet to the one that was supplied, he fitted one which would drain quicker.

I would be tempted to stick a microswitch on the top of the rail for the doors to activate the pump when they close.. Numpty guests! But when you get a guest who closes the shower door after they've finished, then the pump runs continuously. If you can easily get to the water supply pipework, then a flow switch as used on oil combi boilers could be inserted to switch on a time delay relay that will handle the current of the pump and run on for a period after the water is switched off.

A pressure switch under the tray would be an idea, pity you cannot get under there.
Photo cell or PIR sensor in the shower? Bet they would think it was a camera!

Problem was the tray...last off production line Friday 13th model...the design just wasn't quite right in that the fall away didn't. The plumber spent hours altering the fit so that water would drain away.. I know I could have kicked off and insisted on all new but TBH they were local small family firm and its better than it was but not perfect. Its Ok for me and I'll just have to train the little lad into the do's n don'ts. To me it seemed terrible waste to ditch something that was new and with a bit of make do would serve its purpose. Horror House was full of imperfections post renovation. Might just as well carry on here the same. Sitting looking at the 2 guys attempting external lean too I think they have realised that no old property has straight edges........

I'm about to fit a new shower (deep caravan shower tray) on the barge and wondered about this too. Another thing I think I will do is fit an underfloor electric heating may beneath it (boat is on mains electric) so that it had a chance to dry off any spills in the area. Not sure if they do wet room rated ones but will check. Anyway the RCD on the boat and the one on the bollard look after lifeforms effectively. And it will have a curtain. No tiles. And a lot of ventilation which is already in place. Other one would be a beam break detector somehow rigged up to detect when there is someone in the shower. Or a really big sign "run the fucking pump when using the shower you idiot"

Lot of work there Mark. If Chipboard is the Devil's work then MDF is his plan "B" Horrible stuff on a boat, even dry boats manage to get wet or damp on occasion. That's a decent repair that hopefully will put off the evil day when you need to re-vamp Absolutely agree that it is crap. Fitters like it because it is easy stuff to work with but is also quite effective as a sponge. Apparently banned in the USA, perhaps for that reason, although I suspect that there may be toxicity reasons too.

quaysider, 2 pages of old guff and the little donkey, who makes a fleeting appearance in the first pic, doesn't get a mention. Do you pull him along with the string when you go for walks, obviously he goes in shops with you, he has a mask. Free the Donk. Is it called Tony btw?
