Wow, well impressed with the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Massive references to the canals, it’s the main theme. And the bull was fantastic.

Well, glad you managed to get some outside time after having to hide in the saloon when you came past my mooring a couple of days ago.
"Sheepish" is the word I'd use to describe the look on Jaff's face. But at least he was man enough to face me.

Well, glad you managed to get some outside time after having to hide in the saloon when you came past my mooring a couple of days ago. "Sheepish" is the word I'd use to describe the look on Jaff's face. But at least he was man enough to face me. Obviously you feel the need to somehow put a brave face on the situation. No, brave isn’t the right word, bravado is a more appropriate word. Not that you care about the actual facts of course, but I’ll tell you anyway. Jeff has been nagging me to write up a manual about the very high tech electrical power storage and generation system we now have on Telemachus. 5 microprocessors involved, 2 of them designed by me. Of course he didn’t really grasp the fact that a primary design objective was to make it mostly transparent to the user, but I can understand that he finds it daunting. I said “as soon as I write that up, you will have no need to keep me alive” so I’d been putting it off. But I finally agreed to set to it during the transit of what I have previously mentioned is a pretty boring bit of canal. I had driven the boat for much more than my fair share of the last month’s cruise anyway. I could show you the document I created if you like, but I suspect it would be over your head. I’m sure you think that I should have adjusted my schedule just so that I could either scowl or smile and wave sweetly at you in case you were visible on your mooring. And they say I have a big head! I mentioned to Jeff that you might be there. He has previously said that he wants nothing more to do with you (he has some Jewish heritage), so pre-warning seemed only fair. In the event he chose to wave blandly rather than scowl and finger, his choice, but don’t be mistaken into thinking he likes you, he is just polite. Bottom line is that if you want people to like you, you need to avoid making the sort of comment you did, and then take several months after how you made me feel was made clear to you, to sort of apologise about it after you were pressed into it by me. On the other hand, if you don’t want people to like you then carry on. But because this is the second post you have made about our passing, clearly you do care. Own worst enemy perhaps?

Boring. Salvage hunters was much more interesting. You may or may not have seen this before but the episode filmed at Charity Dock was interesting. Salvage Hunters filmed three episodes there and wanted to do another but Pete told them to fuck off.

You create a document to show who was driving the boat?

Massive references to the canals, it’s the main theme. It was a toss-up between that and murder, drugs, and vulgar modified cars.

Popped into Birmingham by train ... terrific atmosphere around the city. The bull is impressive, and animates every hour on the hour. Rog

Not forgetting the original bull of course. Anyone thinking of popping in, it's worth it ... a real festival feel 👍 Rog

is anyone else fed up with the mindless drivel of the BBC's theme tune for Games broadcasts? The monotonous "It's a Brum Ting" is beginning to grate. We may have a funny accent but at least we speak English that can be understood. Woke?.....I think I'll go back to sleep.

Not seen any TV coverage ... other than the silent big screens in the city.
However the city is buzzing with people of all shapes, sizes, colours and languages ... just watching and listening to the crowd's a show in itself.
Birmingham seems to have done a terrific job.

I certainly isn’t a Birmingham accent, it’s a Caribbean accent with a slight twinge of Brummy. I see that 9% of Birmingham’s population is black, probably 75% of those don’t speak with a Caribbean accent. So yes it is very unrepresentative of Birmingham. But I suppose a high proportion of commonwealth countries are mostly black so maybe it’s an attempt to make them feel at home. Or just blatant virtue signalling and wokiness. The latter, more likely. And those of Asian origin will be feeling unrepresented. They are 26% of the population… And it does seem a failure to cash in on the international Peaky Blinders fever.
