Did you ever travel Atherstone locks TonyDunkley when all the side pounds (ponds) were in working order. The lock flight is notoriously slow to fill and I wonder if fully operational side pounds speeded up the process ? I only ever used the side pound at lock 6, the last one to be locked up. Rog Side ponds is correct - not side pounds. Yes, I did, . . nobody bothered using them though, . . because if you did take the time to use them properly , as intended, they slowed you down - uphill or downhill. Bumping the top gate(s) part open with the motor, or the butty, as the locks were filling, and dropping a lump of wood down the gate end post (to keep it from closing fully again) speeded the job up.

I always breasted gates open when there was no audience when I was traveling on my narrow boat. Slowly. On one occasion I did it with another boat nearby and bloke got very uppity about it and said that BW would take my license away. Of course it is against the byelaws and best not done with people watching because they may try to ape the behaviour without knowing how to do it properly.
There was a video of a geyser somewhere I think K&A who was reversing his 45ft(ish) narrow boat right back then going flat out at the gates.
That is not ideal. Yars ago the company would have fined boatmen for breasting gates against a head of water if they were caught.
Also the breast irons are not like they used to be !
Old ones were 3 inch D section iron spiked onto the gates the new ones are about 2 inches if that fitted with pozidrive screws...Oh dear.

Total conversion of matter into energy, as per Einstein. Except that the volockies donβt matter so I guess there would be no energy,

Reactions to controlled dropping of Ham Baker paddles is bad enough even though they were designed for that purpose ... I dread to consider the reaction π€£

Maybe he was actually self identifying as a woman at the time. I'm not sure if one has to tell everyone in the same way as if one were a vegan but it could get complicated. Some people probably change gender a number of times during an average day. How would you know? Seriously.

That's a bit presumptive. Perhaps Mr Stabby is choosing to identify as Mrs Stabby today?
