Grumpy load of buggers. I can remember rocket wars with the kids from the next street.Firing them from bits of old gas pipe and using banger's as hand grenades, and shoving them up exhaust pipes. Collecting money via penny for the guy outside the underground station for weeks prior.Must have been late 50's.There were still plenty of bombed out houses around then. Bloody marvelous times for kids. Yes they were great days apart from sweets being on ration, plenty of bomb sites where I lived in NW London, perfect ready made adventure playgrounds' Phil

It's been going on for hours here, and no sign of 'lighting up' see what I did there? No vino for me tonight, but snuggled up on the sofa, but the fire with coffee & Bailey's does that count?

FFS...moored up in Syria tonight by the sound of it!!! That comment brings back memories. The noisiest night I ever spent was outside on the pavement tables of an ice cream parlour in Aleppo, on the evening Syria won the football in the Mediterranean Games [back in the eighties]. Celebrants were driving up and down the street shooting their firearms out of the car windows. Beat fireworks.

Coffee and Baileys will do instead...youngest son has just text seems as if Roxy, the rescue terrier is in such a state over the fireworks she's had a fit..dam..trouble is sons partner treats her like a pampered pet and is very anxious and dogs picked up on that..if she gets thru this Ill have to have her next year.

My Dad was a Rep for Clarnico and we had loads of the big glass jars of the mint creams. Hackney was a bit different then so I understand.

Took Zeus our rescue GSD out for a walk at 10:00 last night. He was totally unfazed by the explosions and bright lights in the sky.
Last year he was a bit unsettled by them, but I took him out nevertheless, I made reassuring sounds as we went around his usual late night walk and he then began to accept that as I wasn't bothered, neither need he be.
It seems the only thing that fazes him is meeting other dogs when out walking and the ducks coming into our garden.
