If your really serious I think you could get it for that, you might have to take me with you to do the deal. Its a lovely boat. Eta but it would have to be me carrying the Lidl bag with the dough in it. Would this be "Sourdough" ? Peter.

Anyway my dream boat is LAKE but I want to get it for 17 grand. If your really serious I think you could get it for that, you might have to take me with you to do the deal. If (another one of these "if's") I would be looking for another boat, and if I would have the money (which I haven't) you could possibly hear me knocking at your door first thing in the morning to take me there to do this deal. Maybe someone will be knocking at your door early in the morning, but I'm sad to say that that someone won't be me. Peter.

I wonder how much they would get for scrap. Someone would have to take it away so its almost worthless. Actually looks like a reasonably well constructed little boat so if you have transport and are relatively local its worth £60 yes. Eta the seller seems to have some pricing issues as they have a copper fire extinguisher asking £150. I know they are worth a little bit but £150... err I've spotted an old copper fire extinguisher in an unusual location. a derelict bit of land beside a school with a fence around it. Trying to work out how to get hold of it as would like to use it as a reservoir for an air horn. I wondered about a fishing rod and trying to hook it. Its on the ground on some scrub land. Maybe thebfg can advise on this While of course I'd jump the fence, I wouldn't condone taking anything. But if its rubbish. Why not. If its empty a fishing rod might work but they dont deal well with dead weight.

I'm annoyed that I didn't get up there to measure the width of the boat. It was a bit odd because on the day I had planned the long drive I hit something on the road which blew a large hole in the side of the front left tyre of my car. This was local to where I live. I wonder if that was a sign. Problem is it seems likely to be 14ft5 which is risky for the main line of the Grand Union. Seller claimed 13ft10 but I think pluto reckoned on 14ft4. Having said that the Regent's section of the Grand Union is a bit wider than the rest of the line. I'd not want to take it to Birmingham anyway. Lovely boat for the Thames and southern GU.

That's exactly what I would do if I would be in your position Kris, and also you are already so much closer to this gorgeous barge. It's a great pitty that it's (almost) always the lack of that dreaded money that stops us from being able to realise our dreams, isn't it ? Peter.

I agree it's a pity that money can become a limiting factor. It's the same with my boat, if I had a bit more money it would be something like already. But I have to remind myself that I'm very lucky to have the boat ive got. It might not be as pretty as lake, but it's afloat, it moves and it's habitable. So I'll just keep on with it, as I earn money it gets done slowly.

That's the right attitude Kris, with time, energy, a couple of handsful of dosh, and if possible some nice weather you can make it work. Today I'm thinking back on music I always liked an still like today, with lerics that are like a lesson to me. This song is about people, but it would go for boats too, "If you can't be with the boat that you would love, love the boat you're with" Peter.

The other side of it is you get people who have the money to buy lovely boats but they do not have the technical ability to keep them as well as they should be kept. And some people are worse than others at maintenance and actually doing things so you sometimes see rapid deterioration in certain situations.
A good example is I don't like welding so in order to maintain a lovely old boat like LAKE I would need to find a friendly welder as I suspect there is some hull work needed. I can do more or less all the other things. And on the other hand I personally don't use full insurance I just use 3rd party so it would not actually need a survey in order to get a license.
The biggest potential problem for me is the actual width of the boat. That is the one thing I do need to establish for certain. Its not a lot of use having a boat which just gets jammed in locks.
A good factor is that someone has already put a steel lid on the boat. That makes a big difference to its viability.

I'm not sure what waterway its on at the moment but if that was on a CRT waterway it would need to be licensed.
Downham market. EA?
Pretty sure EA houseboats have licenses and BS certificates as well.

Pretty sure EA houseboats have licenses and BS certificates as well. I think it might be a bit of kiddum from the seller in order to sell his barely floating shed for an extortionate price. There's got to be a good profit In that price. I reckon even if you bought everything new it couldn't have cost much more than £6000.
