So if you got only half an amp but over 24 hrs...unlike wind the energy source would be constant. Just add one of those underwater motors Andrew is fond of, although I imagine you would need a rectifier somewhere as well.

You would need lots of them in parallel and series.

These devices need a head of water ie pressure to operate. For a free flow of water one would need a different contraption.
I have an automatic ebay notification for an Ampair UW100.
Yes it is like a pod motor the other way around.
The fouling issue could be significant I think though.
At the country estate we get high flows in winter so it would certainly be a valuable tool.
