Well ok. Lots we can do but none will make any difference to what CRT do. The powers have won. We have let them divide us. Crt will do what they like, because of the lack of oversight. But your point of view does seem a little bit pessimistic. I realise I may sound that way. I prefer thought to think of myself as a realist. I’ve lived my life accepting that most people, particularly those that hold/seek power will do me over given the chance. Because of this I have taken steps in my life to be as sure as possible that I have the means to support myself and family, both financially and mentally. I hope to never have to rely on help from anyone in authority, because I don’t trust them to be forthcoming with that help. Anyways, but heavy for a Sunday and I’ve not even had a coffee yet.

I can understand the sentiment and relate to it completely. I try to be self reliant as much as possible. But I also know if we all do nothing then it’s a done deal. I’d consider myself a realist, which is why I agree crt will do what they want regardless. This is what they have done so far. Maybe boaters should contact their mps suggesting that with the continued goverment funding and large increases to the liscence fee. Maybe there should be more oversight of how crt spend the money. Especially as a large proportion is tax payers money. I think the average taxpayer would expect more accountability than there is at present.Enjoy your coffee.

Thanks, coffees good, great view over the river here. I do regularly contact my MP. I also regularly contact CRT regarding matters that need attention. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for sticking up for myself and others. I just don’t expect anything to change for the better.

I even got a reply from my MP within 24 hours 😁 I agree with ianali ... protest, lobby MPs, spread the word ... but the reality is that the government (and with luck a new one soon) has a long list of priority spending, and canal infrastructure doesn't feature high on it (and to be honest, neither should it). C&RT or whatever body replaces them will still be obliged to continue increasing licence fees, I think that's just unavoidable. Rog

It’s about crt being accountable for what they spend tax payers money on, let alone the liscence fee.

I think it would be quite good if it was us upper class boaters and some benefit claiming scum and licence evaders.
What could be better than ridding the waterways of irritating middle classes?
I'm in !

It should be interesting to see what the next Tory government does.

It's a bit premature to speculate on 2032.

2024 old boy. 2024. It comes like a bolt from the blue. I think he’s implying that the Tories won’t win next time.
