It is a worrying turn of events. The sooner we get a new government the better.
(Hopefully I'll still be able to say that this time next year...)

Yes I agree. Not a good time to be on benefits. Running up to an election, the tories behind in the polls. The economy not doing very well. The tories will see demonising the poorest and most vulnerable as a vote winner. So watch out for ministerial statements blaming the feckless unemployed for the countries troubles. The sooner we have a universal basic income the better.

Its tricky. At the moment the country seems to be under attack from gender ideology extremists. And anyone who believes in their imaginary friend is an extremist in my book! But overall we don't really want our "british values" to be undermined, if for no other reason than it creates internal friction. The French have it better, you want to live in France? You have to abide by French values. We should be more like that.

After all, living rough is so obviously a lifestyle choice (and much cheaper than that other bunch of cunts, the freeloading cc fraternity). Charge the bastards or evict them to somewhere not so visible, that's the way forward. Should at least get some votes in Berkshire anyway.

The sooner we have a universal basic income the better. They are already at it. One thing I read was the DwP will examine where people are spending money. I wonder if this means when I go to the country estate they might do me for fraud. Anyway I'm only on the system until February after which it all changes so will probably get away with it.

Isn't one of the great British values one of tolerance to other peoples views?

The sooner we have a universal basic income the better. The Elon Musk with Sunak interview was interesting to watch. Musk. who despite being a bit obnoxious and a con man, is influential. He told our PM that AI is going to kill off jobs. If this pushes the system towards UBI I think it would be great. So much more creativity available if tou are not working, and so much more meaningful beer drinking. It could be a wonderful world, but it isn't.

Isn't one of the great British values one of tolerance to other peoples views? No, and you are totally wrong to even suggest this.

They can’t tell where you spend money if you withdraw cash and spend it. What happens in feb?

True about the cash.
Its the rail travel. Much cheaper with card.
Don't know what happens in feb I don't even know whats going to happen tomorrow but it seems a good time to sort something out as it will be getting on for a yar since I started defrauding the benefits office and they are going to notice at some stage.
Plan is to go NFA fuck 'em sail round the world in a sloop.

Don't forget Braverman's latest bright idea - a 'crackdown' on homelessness. After all, living rough is so obviously a lifestyle choice (and much cheaper than that other bunch of cunts, the freeloading cc fraternity). Charge the bastards or evict them to somewhere not so visible, that's the way forward. Should at least get some votes in Berkshire anyway. Oh I’ve not seen this, but just the kind of thing I was talking about, so it’s started already. Suella Braverman is seeking to restrict the use of tents by homeless people in urban areas as the government grapples with rising numbers of rough sleepers on Britain’s high streets, according to Whitehall insiders. The UK home secretary’s proposals also include a new civil offence to deter charities from giving tents to homeless people. Charities could be fined for doing so under the plans if the tents cause a nuisance. Braverman has pitched the policies for the government’s legislative programme that will be outlined in the King’s speech on Tuesday, people with knowledge of the proposals said. The plans are being considered for inclusion in two clauses to be inserted in a new criminal justice bill that applies to England and Wales, the people added. The potential legislation would apply to tents that cause a nuisance, following concerns in government about issues such as the obstruction of shop doorways. The people said the proposals were designed to replace elements of the 1824 Vagrancy Act, which criminalised rough sleeping and begging. The government pledged to repeal the act last year. “Braverman has formally pitched a ban on tents in urban areas — except on your own land or the back garden — as well as a new civil penalty for charities to stop them giving out tents to homeless people for free,” one of the people said. UK charities have warned of a growing homelessness crisis caused by a combination of rising rents, a shortage of social and affordable housing and the cost of living crisis leaving more people vulnerable to eviction. Government figures show 298,430 households received help from their councils or were threatened by homelessness in the year to April 2023, a 7 per cent increase on the previous year and 3 per cent above pre-pandemic levels of 2019-20. Shelter, the homeless charity, has estimated that on a given night in 2022, more than 270,000 people in England will have been recorded as homeless. (Financial Times)
