A question about GIs elicited this as part of a response from a certain member. Luckily NMEA gave a good answer first. "You never know if the boat next to you has got one or even there wiring correct ive seen a few that use the hull as an earth point very no no."I have asked him to clarify what he means but if they are so keen on their modding over there why has this been still up since before 9 pm yesterday. He stands a risk that people will be disconnecting their hull mains earth bond. Actually I think he is on about making the hull 12V earth return that he came very close to advocating a week ago. Before anyone says so - no I am not on a witch hunt against him

The problem is, any one can give advice be it good or bad, one can only hope that the knowledgeable amongst us can over ride the bad advice and point people in the right direction.

Yes, but the problem with this particular member is that he appears to be a mate of Dan's because criticising his advice generates a slap-down from DH.
That (and Nick's suspension) was what prompted me to stop offering advice over there completely. Let them get on with it.

Before anyone says so - no I am not on a witch hunt against him Yes, I 'think' he means that an earth return (which, as you say, he was close to advocating last week) is bad. However, that's not what he's said. All of his electrical advice is poor to say the least but with everyone else over here you're the only guy left to correct him.

The only thing I look at now on CCWDF is the MissMax thread.

When I had my boat I devoured all advice until I realised that some people said directly apposing stuff to others so then I took to ringing the guy who fitted out my boat who had previously built boats from scratch and he would put me on the right path..then I would see on CWF who appeared to know what they were saying...I had a few scary episodes, trouble is I just never know whats true and whats not. I really only go over there for Max's thread and a quick waft round some of the others but its so depressing over there..the life has gone.. Guess it's all over here

Guess it's all over here What I did in the early days of fitting out my boat was to watch questions I knew the answer to. Quite quickly you learn who consistently gives sound advice and who does not. Then only listen to those you trust when conflicting advice is given.

Sir Nibble 31st Oct said: " It's getting a bit tumbleweed and dust devils in here." Dust devils, there a hand held vacuum cleaner aren't they? Edited to remove a spurious worm, no doubt added by the conniving auto correct thing grrr.

What concerns me is that another tread has popped up where the comparatively localised effect of anodes has been poo-pood. This poster also went on to suggest we should be using aluminium alloy anodes in fresh water. At least Ditchcrawler (I think) put that one right.
If Dan does not want some very upset newbys he needs to start using his "engineering skills" and extensive boating experience to start modding misleading posts.

I think it was Phyllis who corrected him.

There's yet more bad advice going on now in a battery isolator thread. Geo mis-quoting the BSS and Billy happily agreeing with him. So if a sharp-eyed BSS inspector fails the boat will either of them say sorry?
