Of course Labour needs to get it's act together over Gaza and Israel. The councillors should have watched their words, denigrate Zionists and Israelis, not Jews. I'm happy to criticise the party I'm a member of. Where have you ever criticised those you seem to follow blindly, proven liars, financial incompetents, 5 pms in a row is it? However, being pragmatic it's still the best option for the country and despite your clutching at any straw, heading for a win. As you don't seem to have noticed, some of the councillors are Muslim, probably don't drink. I was surprised but pleased to see Ann Widdecombe has waddled over to Reform. Carry on, split the Right Vote.

I'm wondering what difference being Muslim, and probably not drinking, makes to the logic behind any argument?

Do keep up, daft lad on the back row, read the post again, perhaps move your finger slower along the post, it's tricky with a touch screen though. It was advocated that I go for a drink with them. Though maybe you are suffering jetlag, there's a reasonable excuse!

Most Muslims I ever met drank like a fish. Vodka was the most popular tipple.
Makes no difference to the argument at all except some wit suggested 'drinking buddies' It'll be the fallback option of 'go back to Russia' before long.

Though maybe you are suffering jetlag, there's a reasonable excuse! Ah right so Muslims don't drink. I was in Indonesia during Ramadan. All food establishments catering for local people closed on the first day of the event, in (token?) respect. Following this all food establishments were open and as busy as ever. Because you see, any Muslim may break the fasting 'law' as long as they either: 1/ make up the 'lost' days after the event or: 2/ pay a 'fine' to the local mosque for each breach. Muslims are supposed to pay a fine to the local mosque if they drink alcohol, which is 'haram'. Some may pay these fines, but many do not. Islam recognises that humans are imperfect animals and allows for this. Another example: Whilst living in Jakarta my girlfriend of the time was abused in the street by locals. Called 'whore' and 'prostitute'. Meanwhile, behind my house, a brothel was in full swing every night, stopping just before the first morning call for prayer. All perfectly fine as far as the Muslim 'village leaders' were concerned, due to the payment of sums of cash. It's best not to stand in judgment and make declarations regarding something, when one has zero experience of it.

I'm sure there must be a forum somewhere for people who are interested in being lectured about Indonesian culture by an expert.

Sounds like people rather than any particular race, or religion ... we're all pretty much the same.

I'm sure there are many forums where people make sweeping statements regarding things they have no experience of. Some might even be happy to wallow on in their ignorance.

However many feel they could do better than follow the dictats of one culture or another, just live with respect and care for others, sharing and helping those less fortunate without a grumble or gripe. True anarchy!
