When Labour are elected: It seems obvious to me that Saint Keir and co. won't survive long if they continue to emulate the Tories. This may have been acceptable to the membership of the party in order to gain power but I can't see it beng tolerated, moving forward.
So, Labour will further expand the state, this is going to need a lot more money. They have said 'we won't raise taxes' so I suspect they will leave income tax and N.I. alone. I suspect they may then hammer other aspects of taxation. Such as:
Scrapping additional capital gains and dividend tax allowances
Equalising capital gains and dividend rates with the income rate
Scrap the ISA scheme
End the favourable tax treatment of sectors such as forestry.
If this is insufficient (more than likely, there are plenty of smart people around) might they risk their necks and go for the biggie, means testing at least part of the state pension?

This is just scare mongering I'm not saying they would do this. However, it would raise a lot of money and would fit the socialist ethos 'to each according to his needs'. Pension credit already goes part way towards this. Income based jobseekers allowance was scrapped, only a means tested version now exists. Etc. etc. How do you think they might raise the money?

There's no CGT on gold coins.

True enough. If the government changes this I'd expect at least 15 years notice and then, a personal letter to me detailing the changes. Otherwise, compensation Actually in all seriousness it would be difficult for government to change this. How it might go about charging CGT on legal tender?

I guess so. All shares as well. Make all property illegal.

Yep agreed, and whilst they are at it, why not confiscate all boats not used as the primary residence and give them to the homeless. Another problem solved.
