I can't recall the name of the bridge on the Thames, but there is one where the main Western line originally a Brunel bridge, has been augmented with a later bridge. The later bridge shows none of the skills of the earlier bridge builder. The difference in aestetics is remarkable.

I should be up that way next week so will be able to check it out.

Put photos up Admiral if you don't mind. I do like a bit of well engineered 'brick porn'. Rog

Thats the sounding arch. I think brummieboy was referring to one of the skew bridges Cholsey or Gatehampton. Because of the way the bricks are laid for a skew bridge the second part is very obviously different and inferior. Cholsey is called Moulsford railway bridge not Cholsey.

Looking at the pictures, Moulsford bridge is the one.

Its a sexy bridge that one. I sometimes moor on the island immediately above. The train noise is fairly ridiculous but being in close proximity to a masterpiece such as that is life affirming.
Which reminds me. Must start engines and go tomorrow. Minor problem with a coolant hose now fixed so it should be alright.

I think I have photos of that bridge from our last Thames visit (I believe it's Moulsford). It is a stunning structure if it's the one I'm thinking of. Rog ETA can't find mine, must be on a memory stick ... this from online however
