I take it you've come across a Hudson or two that haven't quite made it to the bank? ππ Well funnily enough we never had a problem mooring Zenobia (Evans & son hull) but with Telemachus Hudson, you point it sharply at the bank til the bow's nearly touching, you swing the back in vigorously then you hit reverse. ... At which point it disappears across the cut. Seriously I think we should make to moor on the opposite side to that we want to just to fool it! I thought Hudsons were good handling boats? clearly all show and no go

Hopefully not since it doesn't make that godawful screeching noise that turns heads! Nobody will ever know... Ah but if the space ain't big enough does the nice driver behind you offer to shift up a couple of feet?! ;-) Depends on how hard you bump them!

But like any deep drafted boat with lots of oomph in reverse, the reverse flow tends to push the boat away from the side. With a shallower boat the flow goes underneath I presume, with a deep boat and shallow canal it can't. There is no problem coming alongside a deep bit. Not too many of those around here though!

What have you bought Nick with a these gizmos a jag by any chance? No, I was thinking about a Jag but we had a terrible time at the local (Aberdeen) dealers. We hadn't even got inside the showroom when a terrier of a salesman marched up to us blocking our path and demanded to know what we wanted. I guess my (clean) jeans meant I didn't cut the sartorial mustard. He did grudgingly allow us into the showroom but then it transpired they'd stopped making the XK estate and anyway there wasn't a fast one with 4WD. Went round to the Skoda dealer next door, quite impressed with the look, size and functionality of the 2016 Superb, and as soon as the salesman started talking about the 280bhp 4WD one I realised that I needed one! So I got a 6 month old one and it's great. Not VRS badged but super quick (0-62 in 5.8 secs) so a stealth car. Fully loaded with gadgets.

I thought Hudsons were good handling "-on-" roads? clearly all show and no go Corrected that for you - but I didn't know they had wheels !!! I still have some fond memories of a Hudson on wheels, this was a 1950 Hudson Commodore with a straight 8 cylinder side-valve engine, as a teenager I earned my Pocket money, washing and polishing this ship on wheels for a wealthy dentist in our neighbourhood.
About every time I gave the keys back after my work on her, the counter had close to 100 kilometers more on the clock, as I could never resist in taking her for a spin, this was all happening in- and around a big city (Amsterdam) full of police, but luckely enough they never stopped me.
The roadholding wasn't very good, but it had a most comfortable suspension, if I close my eyes, I can still picture myself at her wheel.
Peter.

The F-pace wis one of those silly cars that look huge on the oustside and tiny inside. Anyway it was a lucky escape, my Skoda is a much better car.

Lovely view. Nicola will find a way of taxing you for it soon. Edited to say the picture seems to have fallen off, but you know the one I mean.

I'm sure you're right - well she will if she can think of a way that only affects people like me who didn't vote SNP, and not those who did. FWIW Pic still there, page 2.
