Then I suppose introducing vaccines for smallpox and polio is equally specious too ... it's only a discussion to pass the time ... we can attempt to make our points as we wish. I assume you would agree that the covid vaccine program cannot fairly be compared to any others, with the possible exception of flu ? Rog what the hell has that to do with my objecting to his introduction of those vaccination programs ?
my views on mandatory vaccinations are my views on mandatory vaccinations and depend on many things.
and are totally irrelevant to my objection to fake arguments

To be fair JohnV the point being made relates to enforced vaccination. You and I have had our multiple jabs and yet neither of us can be certain that further jabs will be advised. Like you I believe it is the sensible think to be vaccinated but I strongly oppose forced vaccination IN THIS CASE. Rog totally irrelevant ..... he can argue against it as much as he likes .... sensibly
he is using as "evidence" a completely specious argument
he can maintain his argument as much as he likes but when he starts trying to support it by fake logic, I will take issue.
that argument is about as realistic as claiming he can't catch Covid 19 because he lives in a boat named after a potato.
If he wishes to argue that it is infringing his personal liberties then he is welcome to do so, but not by spouting crap

you really don't understand percentages and levels of effectivity do you
Polio is probably one of the most effective vaccinations ever made at about 99% It was also an incredibly succesfull vaccination drive meaning that nearly everybody was vaccinated
so a 1 in 100 chance of catching it from exposure to someone who has it ...... but if 90% of the population is vaccinated then the chance of ever being exposed is tiny and as the vaccination is 99% effective then the number of cases becomes vanishingly small especially as this process started some 60 years ago and the disease is incredibly rare as there were only about 300 total cases in the world in 2000. In reality your chance of catching it is about ..... zero
Smallpox vaccinations started even earlier and smallpox itself is now an endangered species and that was due to vaccination programs starting 90 years ago.
of course there are no cases
basically your argument is specious
I think you have spectacularly missed his point. Nope ..... he is trying to support his views with a completely specious argument

purely out of interest, you are not considered to be fully vaccinated against the poliomyalitis virus until you have had 5 doses
although lower levels are effective in general unless travelling to very high risk areas (not that there are many of them in the 21st century thanks to an effective vaccination program)

Both these artists, before they 'emerged from a sixties counter culture' grew up in a world that saw vaccines eradicate smallpox and polio. Out of interest, have you ever heard of someone who has been vaccinated against smallpox or polio catching smallpox or polio from someone who has not been vaccinated against it? No, I thought not. you really don't understand percentages and levels of effectivity do you

what you mean is , a lot of the people in the convoy will not give a damn about the concerns of the few hundred genuine people in the convoy
You must be very simplistic if you think any provocateurs in the convoy give a toss about discrediting any genuine protest
They are there to further their own agendas (think gilet jaune)
and what is more don't get confused in thinking it is a protest by the the majority of the truckers of Canada ....... they are a minority
I guess the left have done a pretty effective propaganda job if they have managed to convince some simple-minded folk that protesters assembling to fight for basic human freedoms and civil liberties are right-wing extremists. where and who said anything about right-wing extremists ? the only quasi political group I mentioned were the gilet jaune
..... I suggest you check out their political makeup

Continued as a blowy old day up here .... wind was gusting strongly enough to make you stagger slightly as it hit you.
Lovely and sunny and surprisingly warm in spite of the wind, stripped down and rebuilt a large star delta starter.
Burnt out contactor coil plus a loose connection that had cooked a cable and found 2 more loose connections in the control circuit.
Put it all back together (and that was a bugger), whoever designed it should have been taken out and hung from the nearest lamp post.
Turned the power back on, pressed the button ........ and guess what ...... the bastard still doesn't work !!!
Bet it's either yet another dodgy connection somewhere or a dodgy contact ....... but it can bloody wait until next week !!!

So some can understand things better..... ?? Like everyone has come to a better understanding here, right? If this discussion took place in person what do you think the outcome would be? foxey would get thumped ?

@mr Stabby
The designated name of the virus is SARS-CoV-2 as it is genetically a close relative of the SARS virus ..... in case you have forgottes SARS had a very high fatality level (55% of people over 60, 15% over 45 and 6% below) it is closely related to MERS which has a fatality rate believed to be about 35%. both these diseases are very dangerous but fortunately are not very easily transmissable So as a world leader what would you have done when the news arrived on your desk that a very close relative of these deadly diseases had appeared that was very transmissable and was going to go through the population like wild fire........ On the basis of your post it would seem to have been "Fuckem let them die" We have been lucky, very lucky. There have been plenty of things done wrong but they weren't mistakes as such ..... mistakes are only made when you have all the facts and then get it wrong. Getting it wrong when you have to act "NOW" is not a mistake .... it's a bad guess. As someone who keeps claiming a military background you should be aware that any action even if it proves to be wrong, is better than no action

rough old blowy night .... lots of creaks and thumps from the mooring system ...... something went rolling and clattering across the deck in the wee small hours.
Always get a bit complacent after the weather has been calm for a spell
(It was always noticeable during my sea time, that after a long spell in port, soon as you went over the bar and hit the first swell you could hear loads of crashes and bangs)

Many years ago was on an icebreaking tanker (39,000 ton) travelling downstream on the St Lawrence when we suffered total electrical failure .... which took out the steering. The engines stopped but that of course meant you couldn't slow down and we were probably doing about 12 knots with the current. dropped an anchor shortly followed by the second. we ran out all the chain on the first one and the bitter end went. we just stopped a few feet from a ferry dock (with the ferry there as well) ...... hairy ...... just standing watching it when there is bugger all you can do is .......... not nice

No it isn't. It's called a bunch of cowardly bedwetters feeding each others irrational fear. Which is fine, up to the point where it affects me. that exactly describes the anti vaxxers, feared if a little prick or three. My good shepherd wears a white lab coat btw. Have you not learned Boris isn't to be trusted. Who voted for the liar? I did, because I looked at the opposition and thought "fucx that lot, they're even more useless"
I will continue to vote for the least worse option, until someone who looks like they might be of use comes along
