Love the photos lads (johnv, faffer and gazza). Keep them coming, even though you make me feel useless by your efforts Terrific photos. Rog That M20 bolt made me sweat, doing it up claimed a cheap Laser 1/2" breaker bar and sat me on my butt in front of the Dwarf who find that Hilarious. To remove it a 3/4" socket on a 1" Tommy bar along with that bit of scaffold tube on the floor did the trick! I didn't want to cut it off and ruin the galvanising.

Β Β Β The only windows I have seen before on Ormes have been ali framed hopper windows incidentally .... she really is looking smart now !!! I'm guessing not. The front side windows both port and starboard are Ali framed perspex. The rest are hoppers with glass windows - my mate has replaced the crazed perspex and painted the frame black, all the windows are going to get the frames painted black in time. I'm a little undecided on the black, although it does contrast well. My brother had neglected her a bit, my mate won't.

I decided that I had better build a long gangway for Sabina, as I have no idea where I am going to end up, or what the access is likely to be. I have some aluminium truss sections that I have been hanging onto for years in the hopes I would find a use for eventually. I took 2 of them spaced them 2 foot apart with ali tube sections as cross members and fixed some 9mm birch ply on top, ...... came out very sturdy and light enough for me to carry. I then got enthusiastic and made another one the same and clamped them together to make a very long gangway. This is too heavy for me to lift but I can drag it round. I spent the morning making it and a couple of hours this afternoon playing with it, to see if I can deploy the two together using the crane. All told reasonably successful but I think I might be a bit OTT with the length (about 17 feet) It certainly is strong enough (I can bounce up and down on the central join) Tomorrow I'll give it a coat of paint with a handful of sand in the mix and take a couple of piccies so you can all have a laugh !!! After a rest and a cup of tea I then had a go with the pressure washer ....... some of the deck is now grey instead of green ....... well greenish grey anyway ...... still better than looking like a lawn

Got the covers off this morning but I think a change of plan. I am still slightly concerned about the weight of two units together and have decided to remove the ply and replace it with much thinner material. The truss sections are about 6" square and the gap between them about 10" so I should be able to use thinner ply ...... each section is an 8' x 2' bit of ply and reducing from 9mm down to 6 or possibly even 4 mm should save quite a bit of weight and still be strong enough over such a small space. (I hope). I will be able to use up the 9mm ply as I have a box to build to cover the hydraulic pipes on the steering gear. so it won't be wasted. Well John what can I say but bloody well impressed with you and your boat, and the effort you have put into it is top notch ( And I thought I was barmy with the thing i bought lol ) A lifetime project, just what I like. I use to look at Alan Pease boats site all the time at the barges and wanting to do what you have done. It would of been great if you did a full build blog on it from start to now. If i wasnt living in a built up area i would get a steel boat as I can fit a 40 footer down the side of the house ( and i have permission of T ) lot of rackit though so I may have to settle for a GRP again next project. Gazza also impressed with yours. soon be afloat hey One question Gazza. Why did you fill the holes with bolts that you mag drilled ? Could you now of left them or have I missed that bit. Nice thread chaps, good to see other folk doing stuff

The bolts are there just to plug the hole to keep corrosion down. Snot of sealant and the surface area exposed is massively cut down. I had the skeg galvanised before I fitted it, that's holding up well. The holes were opened out from their original galvanised 16mm to 20 mm for the new bolts I didn't want to give somewhere for corrosion to get a good foot hold so bunging the bolts in will help. I'm probably being an old whittle arse, a piece of 10mm steel 2'6" below water ought to last a good while, if I get 30 years out of it I'll be as good as 70 and the Boat 80+

It would of been great if you did a full build blog on it from start to now. I have thought about doing that ..... at the moment I just don't have the time or energy. I have got just a month to get everything finished and ready for sea, it's mostly done but it surprising how many fiddly bits there are (and how long they take) Today I was mostly just chasing round sorting things ....... Getting some meters from the boatyard converted to take the new pound coins, (It's my account at the wholesalers) To the chandlers to replace a faulty VHF and buy some new nav light bulbs. Onward to the agents for my main engine to change some oil filters that had been incorrectly supplied (they looked the same at a glance and the number was almost identical but they were slightly longer and they wouldn't fit under the manifold) Then on to the timber yard to get the thinner birch ply for the gangway. By the time I got back to the boat there was only time to get a coat of paint on one side of the panels ........ and that was another day gone !!!

Yes taking pics and messing about can take more time that folk think when your busy. Hate them days. spend more time running around getting little bits done and barley sod all done on the boat. I wasted half the weekend just gone shopping Hope you can get some pics done of when she is cruising along. You will be reat, stick here in cruise and jump in the tender and get a few nice distance shots in lol. Hey Gazza i am down your neck of the woods this week for a change, got new shops in Basingstoke and Swindon ( you say when i am down there and never have been ) A bit further but still. Bloody satnav sent to to Twickenham yesterday, my mistake i stopped halfway fora P and when i put the phone in my pocket i must of not turned it off and it added a stop off near Twickenham then to Basinstoke and i didnt notice until i seen the ZONE signs and had to stop and reset the Sat Nav lol.

Swindon is 2 hours from here, a mate of mine lived in Cricklade Rd, he's now back at the ancestral home in Cricklade town Haven't been to Twickers since 2014, and unless I go to watch someone other than Northampton play I'm not very likely to any time soon If you are nearby give us a yell, they don't often let me out the county ππ

The photos are slow in coming...
Yesterday I finished the engine coolant pipework. The webasto to cauliflower connection proved to be a pain in the arse. After much buggering about the pipework for the Webasto is done too - but....
The bleed point compression 1/2" tee's that have made the connection for the last few years would not hold water. Try as I Might I couldn't stop a couple of drops on both connections. Nothing has changed with them since I took the tank out π£π¨ Access is an utter bastard now so it's on to eBay for yet more silicone hose reducers. The bleed points are nice to have but the new layout of the system means I shouldn't need them now.
