The video I saw of the scene showed loads of people of all races walking by. Most of the people didn't seem to realise that there had been an attack. Several were asking what had happened and most seemed to presume it was just a car accident The casualties were quite spread out, so unless they had walked the length of the bridge they wouldn't have known that there were more than a few casualties.

Early on there was footage reported variously as panic and fleeing. It gave the impression that most people's first thought was to run for it. Later another emerged with sound and a copper bellowing non-stop at everyone to run for it. Quite a different impression.

I can't find the one I saw now, but it was a few victims spread out along the bridge and lots of people walking by as if it was a normal day. A few people were asking what happened. The guy filming got to the end of the bridge then got turned back by a cop.

There were people wandering about as if nothing was happening in virtually every clip I saw. One can only I assume they had no idea what was going on.

Maybe its always so busy there that people genuinely do not notice what is going on...

In the event of a terror attack or attack with weapons the advice is to RUN, HIDE AND TELL. it is safer to run from someone and if you can't to barricade yourself in remembering to out your phone on silent. So I don't blame anyone for running.

Maybe its always so busy there that people genuinely do not notice what is going on... It can indeed be like that. A lot of Londoners when commuting are miles away, in a world of their own. Totally oblivious of their surroundings.

The volume of human traffic in London during peak hours is incredible. For example the central line has a train every one or two minutes at peak times (6-9am? And 5-8pm?) All trains are packed like sardine tins. Its mental. I've only been on the tube a few times at peak times but the sheer volume of human bodies is amazing.
I imagine when you are part of this sort of "flow" like water flowing through a hose it is probably difficult to take much in as most of the mental processing power is already being used.
Could well be the same on a busy river crossing.

Commuting Londoners are always in a hurry and are completely oblivious to anything going on around them apart from the pedestrian crossing lights and studiously avoiding eye contact so they can move through the melee without interruption - there's a certain art to it. Resident Londoners (not temporary lodgers or suburbanites) in central areas that I have lived are the friendliest and most helpful people you can hope to meet, but they avoid being nosy - the best of both worlds.

I miss London greatly but it's not the place I grew up and spent most of my life in. I think I'm getting old.

London's OK for a day out. When you get home and blow your nose on a white tissue, what comes out will be black, though!

I go every so often for a weeks child minding but as my duties are taking and collecting child from nursery and overnight i have all day free.... I avoid tubes and walk miles and miles...I balance galleries/museums with parks/towpath(avoiding that cycle commuter time)...sometimes I just wander and take in the ever changing landscape of glass that seems to be favoured material of choice in the 21st century. I quite often find a nearly peaceful place to just sit....I quite like the 'Postmans Park' for a retreat in the middle of the city or I have found a meditation centre with underground room i can sneak down when the noise all gets to much. I find the city exhausting..so many people...so busy and I'm always relieved to be going back to my quiet corner on the planet....how anyone can live and thrive amidst all that bustle I don't know. The continuous noise of ambulances and whirl of helicopters as big brother watches overwhelms. Eldest son loves the city...each to their own. I trained in London but left as soon as it was complete...it never felt a home.

A very nice picture of a day in the life of Petty. With no mention of Merlot!
