I want a shed like that Mite talk sweet to T and dig a big hole in the garden fill it and build a shed over it I like the sound of Le Tonkinoi as it is different from the usual varnish and doesnt crack or flake if applied properly. Well i like all about it. Cant wait to try it and ram a few lock walls to see how tough it is It's the bollocks in there! Already planning our next 4 week slot in two years time - windscreen replacement is on the cards then Your idea is better than a koi carp pond 👍🚢⚓🍻 I'm gonna ring the Le Tonki man tomorrow, I should be ready for it by the end of next week. Nowt wrong with planning ahead lol. Can only agree there, i am planning for the next 15 years livaboard lol. Nice one, i am watching in wait for the results if you get some. The pics on the web site awsome. Like the idea of being able to get a matt finish aswell by adding Gelomat to the varnish.

Today was spent cleaning out the guttering of an 18th century watermill followed by moving the boats out of the paint shed then jet washing it top to bottom. We have two work parties a year, membership costs are kept low by everyone pitching in and helping maintain the place, what luck all our paint prep is done just before the work party weekend

Yes, it's not bad at all, we are in a brilliant rural location half way between Northampton and Peterborough, the facilities are ace and all at no extra cost. for example Oundle Marina charge £300 to crane a boat out and back in where out place it's half an hour of a small band of folks to drag it out on a trolley or trailer has the usual problems of committee members with delusions of grandeur, too much politics and too many people with aekf interest at heart but as long as you ignore that and leave them to it it's OK. I could be tempted to go to Peterborough Yacht Club, it's closer to the Wash and has a bit more to do within a shorter cruising range but it's further to drive, as I've got too many jobs to nail over the next 4-5 years it is a Non starter going there.

Yesterday's spring clean meant we couldn't be ready to paint today. No matter, it gave me a chance to do some spot flatting and priming. My Dad pitched in and masked up the windows and rubbing strakes. I'm trying Delicate Frog Tape to see if it lives up to the hype - it's the yellow tape, cheapo standard stuff is used to keep the brown paper in place. All that's left to do is sheet up the joists to stop spiders shitting all over her, a slight rub of the primer, a clean with the tack rags and on the paint goes Wednesday. Northern Star will have the cabin painted on Wednesday too.

Lets hope the temps stay up so it can be applied easier. I will be leaving the strakes until next year now but will do the interior.

Lets hope the temps stay up so it can be applied easier. I will be leaving the strakes until next year now but will do the interior. I'm thinking the The door is going to have the edges and inside done as bare grain with the Le Tonki straight onto it. The outside will have a a couple of coats of Rosewood Sadolin Extra Durable then a couple of coats of Le Tonki. The cockpit is already done with Sadolin, I can't face taking it all back to bare, and as there are some bits that have been filled it wouldn't look 100% anyway. The locker tops are at work, I have repainted the underneath with grey poly floor paint, the tops have had a fresh coat of sadolin, like the door they will get a couple of coats of Le Tonki. Then I have got to strip the remaining crap old varnish in the cockpit, repeat the two coats of Sadolin and Le Tonki and do the hatch and screens as well. Once I m happy with it I will move inside and do the table, heads door and other bits of woodwork, they will all be straight grain rather than stained with Sadolin.

The area around the helm sweeping around to the chair in the foreground is what needs the varnish stripping. The square hole is the old access panel for looking at the fuel tank filler hose, it's now a handy access point for the inverter isolator and is hidden when the 4" thick cushion is in place. The rear most left hand side of the coming lining on the port side had a bit of ply let in where it had gone rotten, there is a skim of filler over the joint, that's one of the main reasons I cant really take it all back to the grain. The Sadolin on the lockers was two quick coats 18 months ago - they will all be done once I have tidied up the 'orrible varnish areas.

I hate it too, this stuff is very good www.toolstation.com/shop/Painting+%26+Decorating/d150/Paint+%26+Varnish+Removers/sd2889/Paint+Panther+Paint+%26+Varnish+Remover/p15403It got nasty the stuff off I couldn't remove easily with the hot air gun. I've more to do in the cabin but that's a job for another day, I've learned to only bite off what a can chew
