Also I believe that in general people are becoming more inconsiderate. Perhaps its part of evolution, worries about the coming Armageddon or just Tory cuts to services. I reckon its going to get worse before it gets better The only way to deal with it is to get away from the fucking fuckers. At least on a boat this is an option !

it's a gentle shove in silence and sneak past everyone. Canals at their best early morning and late evening. So have you taken the Bukh out and gone electric or are you shafting the boat along ?

Har har har! Enjoy your Canal Rage down there in the Midlands! It's so quiet up here, and people are genuinely nice too. I think, after our 5 years exploring the South, we'll come back up here. We're often away between 4am-6am but of course it's a gentle shove in silence and sneak past everyone. Canals at their best early morning and late evening. We might do some night-driving after we leave Barnoldswick just for fun. We are coming up that way this summer so watch out, we will be leaving a trail of rage behind us, a bit like a snail on heat.

Tellymackus
Have you considered selling your <description removed for decency> Hudson and getting a more sensible boat? It's possible that by cruising about in such a <words removed> vessel you may actually be doing yourselves a disservice and attracting negative interaction from the wrong sort of individuals.
Just a thought.

Moored at Gargrave last night, with boats nose to tail.
I realise it's permissible to run your engine after 8am, but it does seem inconsiderate, particularly on a Sunday morning when the moorings are also outside houses.
We started up at 10.45am and left, yet at least three boats started their engines for charging/hot water at 8am.
I hope it is lack of thought, because the alternative seems to be deliberately dismissal of others.
Mind you, I equally hate the phenomenon where you choose a lonely isolated spot to moor, so that you can strip naked and conduct sun worship and human sacrifice (or whatever) and despite there being over 2,000 miles of possible mooring sites, some twat comes and moors button to button with you.
Actually I think that's more annoying, as you expect some noise at busy sites.

Just a thought. If you had actually read my OP you would have noticed that I said we encountered only pleasant polite considerate people whilst cruising yesterday. It was after we tied up in the company of lots of other boats that we encountered the mindless inconsiderate noisy ones. So that makes your post look a bit silly and ill thought out, doesn’t it!

Well i woz up and out of the house 7am.....i'd had a lightbulb moment.....to avoid tourist crowds/noise/mayhem/idiots in flip-flops/etc etc I'd go over WormsHead and take my breakfast so by08:40 I was sat up there on top of my world..all alone ..not one other person to spoil my morning..in fact I was coming back over the Causeway before I encountered another human being..... Now in Summer House..I've walked 13.7km today....

Maybe the fact people have to look at the boat for a longer period of time when its not moving is what is causing the problems

I'm deeply hurt and upset by that. I'm going to mount my Sea Searcher magnet on the side of my boat so when you come past, all your rivets jump off.

B******* Yes but one has to be careful of one’s grounds. We recently moored for the night between Minworth and Curdworth. I suppose that might seem “in the middle of nowhere” by BCN standards. We had joined another boat already there. Later on, 2 further boats joined the line. I got chatting with the chap on the first boat, perfectly pleasant but he hinted at this phenomena - they’d moored in the middle of nowhere with no boats around, and 3 hours later there were a further 3 boats all nose to tail. The thing is, he had failed to notice that the Cuttle Bridge Inn was about 30 yards away the other side of the bridge (and thus just out of sight) and mooring right outside tends to be a bit noisy with road noise. So actually he had stopped in prime over night mooring zone, it was just that he was the first to get there.
