I must say I find it hilarious how every thread seems to involve commenting on Hudsons and their washers. I am proud to have a boat that stirs so many into so much inane verbosity. Even if it is all based on jealousy from folk with cruddy boats! One day you too will be able to afford a Hudson. But then again, probably not.

Now then how much is a washer 8p maybe cheaper if you bought a box. So Nick how much did each washer cost you?

I don't comment about Hudsons ..... it's all been said and each to his own and everyone has their own cross to bear ...... I just wonder how he gets the butler to put up with it oKZzQ by mudlarker2, on Flickr

I like the look of hudsons, find the 'trying to impersonate someting its not' quite quaint!
I particularly like seeing the owners, complete in grandad shirts with neckerchiefs, rearranging their freshly painted 'Buckby cans & mops' after they moor up and going inside to watch their sky TV. Fantastic that they try to keep traditions going!๐

Fantastic that they try to keep traditions going!๐ Tautology alert. If you are impersonating something, you obviously canโt be that something. Anyway the whole thing of vaguely resembling the look and feel of something from the past is common amongst narrowboats. How many have roses and castles? (we donโt, thank god!). Itโs a bit like a Mini. Or a Fiat 500. Or a beetle. Maybe a fake copy of the original but so much better than a bland eurocar. (Or clonecraft in boating terms). At least it has a distinctive look. The thing is, you have never actually seen a Hudson owner in a grandad shirt and neckerchief. That is reserved for historical narrowboat operators especially President.

grandad shirt and neckerchief are fairly grim but there are two items that make me shudder more ..... either a "Breton cap" or a "captains hat" complete with overload of gold braid

That and large Rosie and Jim 'voodoo' dolls.
We were sat in Skipton canal basin having a pint outside the Boathouse, and a posh Braidbar boat was moored alongside with dolls about 4ft high sat at their dinette.
Why do people have them?
Scary eyes!

Well actually I did see the 'captain' ๐ of 'Brigand', complete in grandad shirt, but without neckerchief admittedly , being an arrogant twat, mooring overnight on the Montgomery canal entry 'waiting' moorings, thus causing inconvenience to people wanting to enter the locks, about a month and a half ago when I was there. He Looked 'up, down his nose' at me when I asked him to sound his (probably non working replica๐) Klaxon horn mounted on this rear hatch! ๐ Have to add...it did look a fantastic boat that I would gladly give a home to....unlike his bulldog like missus! ๐

Ah but, say it quietly, A modern Fiat 500 is a rather marvelous machine, I'd be more comfortable driving a 500 than dredging the bottom of the BCN on a Hudson. I'd take the bus over driving any Mini - ancient or modern.
