I agree foxy. Its ridiculous. Railways should be state owned. Privatisation was just another greed driven scam.

You can cut jobs to much and streamlining can lead to dangerous staffing situations. We need guards on trains

Trains are a great way to get to the boat. It means you can move the boat and not have to worry about the car.
Years ago I travelled by boat from London to Wales taking a car with me. Cycling back to the car after each boat move ie every day or two.
Very annoying. The worst thing was that fisherwankers often annexed the parking by bridges. Now I tend to use trains when boating as it is much more flexible.
Trains are good. Selling the family silver is bad.

Public transport should always have been provided as a public service, like health service.
A major employer and part of our national infrastructure.
But we've come too far to go back I fear.
As the Irishman said when asked for directions, you don't want to start from here!
Hope Dr Beeching (a Labour man too) is spinning in his grave.

Let's start another war and deliberately lose it to give future generations a chance.

I blame it on my age.
I'm quite sure that a state owned railway can be perfectly satisfactory. Of course if some people had an agenda to degrade the railways deliberately in favour of road building and possibly even close some rail lines I would know nothing about it due to memory problems.
I would rather UK railways were owned by uk.gov than private investors. Specially Germans !

The guard is the man, The man in the van, Which is found at the rear of the train.
The driver up front, Thinks the guard is a ****, And the guard thinks the driver's the same.

Railway guards are just as important as teachers.
They mind trains while teachers train minds.
Similar sort of job really.

I have same issue with driver only buses. What if the driver has a heart attack etc etc. My dad was a bus driver, he died peacefully, painlessly of a thrombie. Not screaming in terror like his passengers as they went off the mountain

As we all like them, here's a photo of a proper train seen earlier today.
