Got married in a registrar's office in Barnsley Town Hall in 1979 as we're both atheist.
Had the big reception but god played no part thankyou.
We were young and wanted to commit to each other in a public way.
We're still together.

The devil is in the detail. Marriage = nonsense rubbish. Civil partnership = what anyone would want. Surely. I am not interested in the legal framework surrounding all this conjugal nonsense but a civil partnership sounds like a good thing to have with another person who you have decided to join up with to bring up your children. I agreed with doing some sort of thing (the woman said she would never leave me and I said the same after a few weeks of dating) but marriage is an old fashioned religion-based institution which I disagree with. You don’t have to bring god into it at all. FFS, how many more times? When referring to gods in general the word starts with a lowercase letter. When referring to a specific god, which you obviously are here (the Judeo-Christian god) then it starts with an uppercase letter, i.e. God. Is it too late to get a refund for your school fees?

No, if you are an easily misled god botherer you would say “God”. For every other vaguely sensible person who knows god doesn’t exist, it’s “god”

Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes didn't exist but that doesn't negate the rules of grammar, which weren't invented on the day you were born. I'm quite happy to help you with the shortcomings in your education if you want.

Can't D9 auto replace god with something else, it would stop silly arguments, my suggestion would be Mickey.

Well, you didn't win nick. Who did win then? I did. English grammar follows rules, and I understand those rules, whereas you seem to think that your personal beliefs override them. They don't. I too am an atheist but the education I received at my proper school taught me that when one refers to a specific god, the rules require that the god is referred to as God.

I too am an atheist but the education I received at my proper school taught me that when one refers to a specific god, the rules require that the god is referred to as God. No I did. Because, whilst I am fully aware of the traditional rules of grammar, those rules are for the guidance of wise people and the obeyance of ill-educated fools. In the same way that I was taught at school that I should breed with females and make babies. I chose to be different and so do I choose to use the power of language and grammar to make my point. I realise that such an iconoclastic strategy will seem inconceivable to your limited brain but be assured, you have my sympathy.
