I find all Foxys engine oil changes quite perplexing......how often do others change their oil?..What happens to all the 'old' oil?.... It's not possible to harm an engine by changing the oil too often. On older engines, combustion contaminants are absorbed into the engine oil and the most important thing is not to go too long between oil changes as the oil starts to "sludge". I tend to do mine every 150 engine hours and I add the old oil to my old oil collection at the mooring. One day I'll probably take it down the household tip.

Twice a year whether it likes it or not. naughtyfox should ditch the wood burning stove and fit a waste oil furnace, much more economical given his rapid turnover of engine oil 👍🍻🔨🚢

Drove throught Worsley yesterday, avoiding stoppages on the M60 on way home from Cannock. The basin where the mine is looked to be dammed off and being worked on, from a very quick glimpse driving by. But you're long gone from there now.

Moonlight in Middlewich. Drove by there on the m6 yesterday morning, was just thinking, "we'll be going that way in September". Then this morning they shut the Rochdale! Rassllefrasslerasslefrassleras! as Muttley would have said. This was meant to be the pic of the lock by the M6, don't know what happened!

.tomorrow telling Estate Agent not showing anyone else round..they must do them all. Sensible in my opinion. You know the house bad points and are probably too honest to hide them successfully. Let the agent take the stress.

It's not possible to harm an engine by changing the oil too often. I believe it is. Bore glazing. Clean oil is going to encourage bore glazing whereas dirtier oil will have some abrasive components in it which will tend to reduce the probability of bore glazing. It depends what you do with the engine. An engine which is heavily loaded most of the time might benefit from regular oil changes but a canal boat engine which is usually fairly lightly loaded most of the time would prefer dirty oil. Of course there is the marketing thing "do you need an eye test so we can scare you into buying glasses" but at the end of the day overly regular oil changes are an indication of psychological instability and may have some underlying genetic or early parenting components.

In my experience blue smoke (rings or valve guides) is a bit unusual on canal boats. Quite common on commercial vehicles but I don't see it that often on canal boats. A lot of it on overpowered underused river boats.
Thinking about the engine loading situation a bit more I realise that you are running a fairly small (10hp) unit so it may see a certain amount of work compared to say a beta 28 in a similar size boat so perhaps oil changes more often are worthwhile.
I still think the oil change situation is a bit of a scam.
Just in case you wondered about this I am not a hippie and I don't give a shit about the environment!
Anyway if you have the misfortune to be down in London again let me know as I feel bad about the beer situation.
