Fascinating
I'm back in the urban slums after a very nice week on the Wey with the woman and kids. With wall to wall sunshine and temperatures exceeding 30 degrees the wey was the Wey to go.
Soon as we get back to the barge it starts raining !
Good timing except I will be moving the other boat down to Brentford from Hampton Caught (ouch) this afternoon so would prefer no rain ideally.
Strange coincidence I found a pair of "cross the Atlantic on a raft" Henri loyd salopettes a while ago in the cut. Cleaned up they are pretty good. Maybe today is the day to try them.

Stretford (Manchester) to Great Haywood 22 litres of diesel. Great Haywood Marina is asking £70/week if we were to moor there. If it's not too far away for you, Brinklow Marina would charge about £750 for six months.

Saw you pass earlier this evening. Didn’t get chance for more than a shouted hello afterwards. Nasty rains passed huh. Hah! Witchy thought it was some old "SlowDown! " moaner, but I thought the wave was more of a friendly wave - but I didn't know of any Thunderboater out this way in the sticks. I did think to stop and run back... but then thought "they could run to us..." Shout some abuse next time!! But you passed so slowly, that’s why I was late noticing your boat. I’d not abuse someone that once sent me a free dvd set...at least I think it was you!

Penkridge lock was the site of my most memorable bow thruster experience. I was moored there in my little narrow boat (a Hancock and Lane Marlin called Annessa now renamed "Encore" in 1994. Opposite teddesley boats.
A bloke was coming along in a nice shiny all singing all dancing boat and there was a whining noise so I asked him what it was (I was new to canal boats) he looked at me and said "I've got bow thruster then proceeded to whack the side of the lock entrance quite hard. I suppose I was to blame really because I had taken his attention at the stage where he should have been concentrating on where the boat was going rather than telling me about his girlie button.
Lesson learned. I no longer ask people what the whining noise is.

Thread closed? aw come on...theres a few of us may just want to derail..... Well... here's an appendage. I wanted to do Filance Lock by myself, as practice for when I'm on my own after Wednesday afternoon. The Witch has not let me do any locks so I'm rusty on the routine of single-handedness. I forgot about the stupid side (mid-line?) rope which is now entwined round the prop! What a Prize Twat! As it happens we drifted to where we wanted to be moored anyway, so we went to town to do our other stuff. I bought 10 spare hacksaw blades, just in case. Down the weed hatch now to free the rope + prop from their intimate relations. If any Jehovah's Witnesses pass and ask if I've found Jesus I'll say Yes he's down this bloody hole!! staple spun polypropylene rope. It floats.

Good luck Patty. Hope the end is in sight. Be brave and stick to your guns Rog this aint gonna be easy but every house she pings over for me to look at I see work..I'm not afraid of work but I cannot carry on as I am...I am tired of the hard slog. I may just as well stay here as buy one of them. I look at gardens and shudder at the sight of hedges, trees and rampant weeds.

Patty, you need your new house to be right for you.Put yourself first & forget about what others want !After 'Horror' house, you need a place where you can be comfy, content & most of all...happy.xx well not aiming for 'happy'..settle for content..cos with contentment comes happiness.. When daughter moved, youngest son and I cleared her front garden of rampant ivy and shrubs..part of it in torrential rain as youngest due to go somewhere..guy over the road came to offer us tea and biscuits and a job....clearing his garden..obviously refused that one. I ve cleared middle sons garden x2 as he's in a rental that I stumped up the deposit for...but I am not doing that one again cos I reckon no matter what i do there the deposit will be lost cause. I really just want to stop working so hard. Like to get rid of most of the D I Y tools here plus all the sealants, glues, spray foam etc and all the gardening implements, the crowbars, axes, sledge hammers, saws etc...I do not want a future where any of that stuff plays a part. I'll obviously keep an emergency kit box....
