dont tell me thats a self drive electric artic unit. Yes, that is the future. I won't deny it, because that would be like saying "These new-fangled horseless carriages will never take off" in 1895. But this will happen. Volvo (and Tesla, Mercedez-Benz, Bosch, Google, Scania etc etc etc) aren't spending billions of pounds on development just to while away a boring Tuesday afternoon. I will be retired by the time they are introduced, and pushing up the daisies by the time they are mainstream. But it will happen.

Does it know how to overtake another truck going 0.5mph slower and block the motorway for five miles? I have to correct you here. The rules of Elephant Racing require a maximum speed differential of 0.0002 mph.

Does it know how to overtake another truck going 0.5mph slower and block the motorway for five miles? I have to say its not the artics blocking the motorway when overtaking, it is the idiots that cant over take them at a decent speed, if folk cant get to 70mph the they should stay behind the artics until the second lane is clear again and not slow the traffic flow.

How well does it cope with going under bridges if it detects something coming in the opposite direction ?

I think 3 lane motorways should be altered to provide a 4th lane 2 metres above to outside lane. I think there is room for this under existing bridges. This elevated lane to be used for driverless cars and integrated with motorway exits.
Over height vehicles would be prevented from entering the lane by height barriers.
Trucks only need 2 lanes anyway.
And a high speed vacuum tube beside all motorways.

How well does it cope with going under bridges if it detects something coming in the opposite direction ? I'm not sure. But apparently it's very good at promising boaters that it will help them with their engine problem and then coming out with endless excuses about how it "can't turn up today because its blood pressure is too low to drive but will definitely be there tomorrow", and then repeating the procedure ad nauseum until the boater gets an overstay notice. If you get my drift.

I do like a good spat. It so boring when everyone gets on.
So all we need now is a good spat...
