to be fair whilst removing lorries would be great for the road network. removing cars would have a better result in less traffic.
have you ever stood by a motorway and watched the car a drive by with one person in.
no one works locally anymore.

I was meaning the Northern canals and rivers which ARE built for commercial sizes of traffic (although not maintained sufficiently by CRT to enable 1,000 tonners to load to their full draft) It would take very little effort (on the national scale of things) to carry large quantities of bulk goods over very large areas of the Northeast. How much freight could the Northern canals and rivers cope with? Obviously more than at present but say compared to the Thames.
A couple of reports that some may find interesting;
First gives a breakdown of UK freight by modes, second gives a breakdown of waterborne domestic freight.
If I've understood correctly in 2015, 201 (Billion Tonne Kilometers - bt-k) of freight was carried of which only 1.5 bt-k (0.7% of the total) was moved on Inland Waters and over half of that was on the Thames.

Injured trifles? Straight to the whoops aisle in Asda! Delicate food items to be sent by road. I was thinking if consumer products and perhaps beer. You could have a beer barrel sized tube delivery system linking pubs by running alongside existing roads then when pubs need more beer you could fire the barrels down the tubes at high speed in a partial vacuum. This could be extended to beer can sized tube delivery systems which could be used to link beer shops together. This would take a lot of traffic off roads if all beer products were sent by high speed tube systems to where the are needed. You have too much time on your hands.

Yeah, he needs a spade and a pair of workgloves. And a length of string to make sure the new canal is straight.

I've come to an agreement with the woman that we will not visit military museum establishments with our children. They know about war and shit but I dislike the way things like HMS Belfast etc are used to glamorise war which is in reality an unbelievably nasty side of human behaviour. I'm not a pacifist and I agree with nuclear deterrent etc and decent aircraft And kill kill kill if under threat but some of the museum shit I don't like. Its best left behind in my opinion. seems l8ke a good place to drop this little beauty
