EU regulation 547/8 section 4 paragraph 6 states: All boats traversing the Rochdale Canal must have four fenders down on each side at all times. By order of... err... what's my name? Drunker? Oh - Juncker!

Oh - Juncker! Couldn't be arsed to lift them, will swap sides when the moor up shortly. Another 2 locks and walk back to the car. Setting off on the 27th, brighouse way.

Look what a magnet fishist has left for me. Its reminded me, I need to mend the double long throw one In found on the last trip. I found a short one too, like this one, last time out. Why don't they leave me Ali ones. Selfish I say!

I wonder if that's what caused the problem with the middlewich breach.
I have never and would never leave a windlass I pull out with the magnet by a lock. Its an invitation to rattlesnakes.
Ridiculous behaviour. The magnet situation is becoming problematic.
If I get a knackered windlass out it goes back in unless it is an antique. I will offer it to another boater if someone is about. I've had hundreds out.
Leaving windlasses by locks is going to cause vandalism problems.

The locks here generally need a handcuff key. The magfishists leave stuff to be collected, at bridgeholes etc. Wouldn't be right down south tho, I agree, too many criminals.

Its OK if you have anti vandal measures. Not all locks have those.
I'm upset by the fly tipping by magnet users. Its the same topic as metal detecting leaving holes in the ground. Can only lead to a ban not that it would be enforced.

Paint roses and castles on the roof box. Please. Not a chance! Thank you. I do have a nicely painted bucket given to me by a friend, along with 2 lasts, painted canal stylee, god knows why! The Bucket travels on the roof, the lasts are in the garden.

I hope that as an ardent europhile, Jim isn't running that boat on red diesel.

Keep up at the back. What? You can't because racing elephants are blocking your path? It has a 20hp Honda egg whisk on the back. First and last lasts.

Hi Jim, I would be interested knowing if your 20 hp Honda is plenty powerful enough to drive your boat, how many liters per hour it's using on average on the canals, and lastly what's the weight of your boat roughly ? Peter.

A friend of mine had a Honda 8 (the new type) on a small day boat. He was able to pull his 70ft narrow boat with the little boat alongside. They have amazing thrust.
Not sure about fuel but it was not greedy.

Not sure about fuel but it was not greedy. If diesel prices keep on going up, it may start to become a good alternative, and a space saving option, with as a bonus the easy of maintenance, as you can simply unhook the engine, and strip it on your kitchen table. I haven't got a kitchen table and no space left on my saloon table, but I could do it on the floor, or somewhere else, on someone else's kitchen table Because most of the modern 4 stroke outboards are almost silent, you can have a loudspeaker emitting the sound of a glowbulb Bolinder, Kromhout or other REAL boat engine. Peter.
