Merry Christmas from the top of the cut. Just been out for a stroll in the sunshine. The pylon in the photo is one end of the longest pylon span in the country, going over Rochdale Canal summit pound.

Apologies if I offend anyone with my bah humbug sentiments. There again if people are free to bang on about how wonderful Christmas is, I'm free to bang on about how it's a load of crap, utterly meaningless to me, and most if they were to open their eyes a little, and only sustained for commercial purposes. I think that's fair.

This is me all set for the festivities, 40 mins walk to parents (just right for the mutt walk). Allows me to partake in the jollies and then return to the sanctuary and isolation of home, and then partake in some 'wellbeing' without offending the teetotal relatives!
Bah Humbug to you all

. We don't buy into it at all. Just a simple Christmas with a few charity shop presents for the children and stockings full of tangerines. They enjoy it but no manic consumerism for us.
Too much hype about. Its technically quite an interesting time of year though because it is becoming obvious the days are getting longer which has got to be a good thing. It seems to happen every year but you can't be sure until you feel it. About 4 days is enough to notice it.

Bah Humbug to you all Lovely spot there above the deep lock. Will be interesting to see what the A40 traffic is like first thing tomorrow. Usually it starts getting noisy very early but it might be eerily quiet tomorrow. Nice photo showing a beautiful curve there. I love the curves on the cut. A real thing of beauty its a work of art.

Happy Christmas to all on TB! It doesn't have to be 'commercial' - ricco has been watching too much TV and listening to Christmas jingles on the radio too much! I have only seen one advert, I think it was Lidl (?), the one with the Muslim sitting by the Christmas tree - Multicult shoved down your throats! I've avoided the Christmas panic, but did send a few cards with details written about our latest adventures not just 'Merry Xmas Fuck You' scribbled hastily inside. I got small presents for those who deserve them, charity shops come in real handy sometimes! Ringing the bells tomorrow for Christmas Day Service at Market Drayton church, that costs nothing and is entering the 'Christmas Spirit'. No parsnips and stuffing for me tomorrow, but I have some Blue Bishop Stilton and cheese biscuits, and a bottle of Glenfarclas to keep those pesky memories at bay

I nervously asked the man at the beer shop if its open tomorrow .
He said "ho yeah hoppen shame has halwiz" Turkish bloke can't do English very well but I gather the shop is open which is a Good Thing as keeping excess beer rations aboard the vessel is not a viable solution.

as keeping excess beer rations aboard the vessel is not a viable solution. I disagree! it's just a question of utilising space correctly....
As it happens I note that the beer shop that I'll pass on my way home tomorrow will be open, seems rude not to give them my custom...

I'm guessing its the one with the chip shop beside it. A few minutes up the road from Wide Water lock.
Or is it the one behind the swan and bottle.
I have been considering doing a phone app called "where's my beer?" Mapping all local beer shops along with customer concerns and opening hours.
Probably not worth it though. To be fair !
