Hello Peter hope you are well. I know the boat Venus and have been aboard. So sun is a similar size to Venus? Very interesting. I suppose so, if you know Lee ("Venus") you could as him, he may know more. Peter. I don't have contact with him, I met him through Derrick. I think he posted on cwdf or even maybe here about shortboats. It's a pity Derrick doesn't post on here he could teach us all something about shortboats.

I was going to say about 11'6-12ft looking at the picture.
I remember "mercury" being for sale at some point but I think the stern was different.

So it was good to finally meet my first Thunderboat member today, probably my last. Nick and Jeff were just locking through Linton Lock when my colleagues and I arrived this morning to paint anything that wasn't moving. Those who know Linton Lock will know it is difficult to have a chat with the helmsman so couldn't talk to Nick much but had a pleasant chat with Jeff while waiting for the lock to level. As seems usual Nick seems to be nothing like he sometimes comes across on here.
Hope you managed to get right up to Ripon, there is another 59 footer following you up tomorrow.

Yes we have just turned the in basin and moored. The locks weren’t particularly tight - only had to raise the stern button, leaving the 2 tipcats and bow button in place. I think Mill Bank lock on the C&H was tighter. Lovely up in the basin, though I slightly resent the extensive “no mooring”. Of course there has to be enough room to turn but the moorings could have extended a bit further. No doubt for noise and smoke reasons. We have taken the last slot. I suppose in this case, we have to bear in mind that through traffic to the basin was only reopened in 1996 and so the old argument about buying a house by the canal and then moaning about the boats, doesn’t apply - the residents were probably there first!

You can call Derek and ask him how he's coping with his treatments, and ask him for Lee's contact details if you want to know more about his boat and the others like "Sun". In case you don't have Derek's phone number : 07837428588 should be good for talking to him. I found some good news (if all is well) about Derek's condition : NEWS 📰 FLASH 📸 NEWS 📰 FLASH 📸 Derek finished his 20 sessions of radiotherapy today, so proud of him he sailed through it without any fuss or moaning. Now it's a 6 month wait to see if it has workedPeter.

The barge in the front sun, looks like an interesting sized boat. Hello Kris, I agree with you that that smaller barge "SUN" is a nice size, I think that it belongs to a series of BW Workbarges that were built at Camplins Of Goole, like the "NEPTUNE" - "CANOPUS" - "SIRIUS" - "URANUS" - "MERCURY" - and "VENUS" that belongs to the guy who works "AMBUSH" with Derek Bent. If life was perfect then Derek would have owned one of the other boats...

I do talk to him every so often and he has been a great help with MEDLOCK, but your right I should call him. How are you doing? I don't mean to pry but how are your hassles with the mooring?

Hello Kris, the number of Derek that I posted is his contact number for people that want to order his fuel, so I think that he would be happy for other people to know that number, as they could need his fuel one day or another, it has been in the public domain for many years already and is far from a secret number. It's more like some extra free publicity for this good man and his business. About the hassle with my mooring agreement renewal, that is a VERY SLOW process, I've had a serious argument with the boss there, as he didn't want to accept the attestation of my official expert that stated that it was perfectly safe when the river would be flooding with extremely high water levels, this because it didn't say that it would still be safe if the levels of the 1910 floods would happen. I got very angry as there was no way I could get this stupid guy to accept my papers, and I could feel that my heartbeats were going faster and faster, and I was feeling that I needed to smash the office, which wouldn't have been in my favour (I suppose), but then I had a bright idea, and I told him that to avoid me getting uncontrolable and risking a heart-attack, all he had to do was write me a piece of paper with his name and function, and his reason for his refusal, and that I would leave without any further useless discussion with him, and that I would go to Paris with his paper to visit the Dutch Ambassy to ask them to interfere with this matter of power abuse. He didn't seem to like that idea at all, luckily he didn't know that the Dutch Ambassy isn't interested in helping ordinary people out at all, I've experienced that 30 years ago when the French customs confiscated money from me, and he said that he was willing to make an exception for me, as I'd done all that work and spent lots of money to be conform. 3 Weeks ago I signed a pile of papers at their office, but nothing has been confirmed yet, and they'll get someone to messure the water-surface between my boat and the bank, as from now on they want me to pay for the rectangular surface of my boat plus the water surface, which is very unfair, as there's no deep enough water closer to the stony bank, and because it's undeep the level go's down almost 1 meter when the big sand-barges pass (biggest one 85m x 9m50) a bit too close. If they'd given me a mooring alongside a straight quay somewhere, I wouldn't have needed to stay at a safe distance from the bank. In a few weeks it will be september, and that will make it 1 year for my actions to renew my mooring agreement, and only because of the changes of offices and office workers it's still not done. If I say that I'm more than fed-up with all this hassle, would you believe me ? Peter.

If I say that I'm more than fed-up with all this hassle, would you believe me ? Peter. Your probably right about Derrick not minding getting free advertising 😃 I really like the way you put the officious pen pusher onto the back foot, it's always better to use your intelligence to beat them rather than physical violence. No matter how much you'd like to smash up his office. I'm not surprised it comes down to paying them more money, this just seems to be the way of the world nowadays Unfortunately. officialdom always moves slow, but it sounds like your going to be able to stay which is the important thing. So I'm glad you seem to have turned a corner with it. I can understand your frustration at having to go through all the hassle, it's wrong that people like this can cause such stress for people without any comeback. I remember when cart where threatening to take my boat all the time it made my life very stressful for no valid reason which in my book is totally wrong. Anyway hopefully once you've sorted it, they will leave you alone for a long time. regards Kris

Anyway hopefully once you've sorted it, they will leave you alone for a long time. regards Kris If I finally get my new mooring agreement, it will be for another 5 years, but I really hope that I will find the time and the courage to get rid of the stuff that I've collected and that's filling my boat so much that I can't let anyone come on board (I often even hesitate to go in myself), it's madness, and I know that I could live without (most of) all that stuff. I would like to clear the mess, tidy up the boat, a coat of fresh paint and varnish and then try to find a new owner who's prepared to give me a decent amount of money (I'll accept gold bars aswell), and sell the small barge of my avatar too, and then buy another smaller boat that will allow me to cruise around during the season and find a winter-mooring with water and electricity for the months that I won't cruise. This all sounds like a dream, but it should be possible. Peter.
