“Shetland” was utter shite. Why in gods name they had use nearly all actors including all the main cast, who spoke with a Glaswegian accent I can’t imagine. Whilst Orkney is full of white settlers from the mainland (mostly english, actually!!), Shetland is full of ... Shetlanders, with a very distinctive and rather nice Shetland accent and dialect. I just couldn’t get past the ugly central belt accents. We don't have much worth watching in Finland, so it is our Saturday (weekly!) entertainment. Yes, there are holes all over the place in it, it's not 'as good' as Morse or Endeavour or Waking The Dead, but we sort of like 'Shetland'. It would be nice to have a trip to Scotland again, but I don't know when.... If you haven’t been to Shetland I’d recommend it - in summer! Lovely people and some great scenery despite the lack of trees. I went to a wedding there many years ago. A free bar for the duration and it went on for about 3 days. I keeled over after the first day!

Why go to Lanzarote when there is M&Co and Intersport in Lerwick, chilly windswept moorland, and cute ponies in Shetland?

I have only gone to the shetland islands by military helicopter, it was wet and windy in September and very cold, so maybe winter came early that year?

The chap (I presume it's actually the narrowboat) is the one from aove Officce Lock (Leeds) that had been "squatting" there for months until they finally evicted him earlier in the year... he then just moved to Castleford where he's been for months since... cluttering up the towpath, complete with umpteen staffs (the dogs are nice but a bit barky)... Obvious mental health issues (don't we all?) but all that moving him on does is transfer HIS problems to another area - perhaps this time he might get some care and intervention to help him out along the way. My instict used to be to keep clear of such folk but these days... perhaps the empath in me, wants to see if there is a way to help bring them back into boaty society etc. He was moored on the old oil terminal at Fleet when we passed on August Bank Holiday.
