Before we left Braunston, yesterday lunch time, a wide beam came by heading for Dunchurch I presume ... this time it appeared to be with the owners and a couple of guests on board, with narrow boats scuttling for the banks to get out of the way.
I was a bit busy, so couldn't get a photo unfortunately.
No alerts, no warnings, the boat just appeared ... perhaps now wide beams are in Dunchurch Pools and Barby moorings, it's not too surprising that they go out cruising, even though it's a narrow canal, and is a hazard to be aware of on this stretch.

Rog Was the presumption that this "hazard" was heading for the North Oxford based on seeing which way it went at Braunston Turn, and if not, did you give any thought to the possibility that it may have been intending to take the Oxford to Napton -- the length that you, mistakenly, think was "widened" in the 1930's -- before turning off down Wigram's Three and Itchington to head off towards Brum ? From watching various videos of today's narrow beam canal pleasure craft on the move, in the hands of their obviously nervous owners, it is all too apparent that "scuttling for the banks to get out of the way" is how most noddyboaters react to anything coming in the opposite direction, . . whatever width it happens to be, . . and unless they're already bumbling along on one side or the other in the canal's margins, . . as they so frequently are !

If you read it again you will find that the "hazard" is a reference to the fact there may be wide bean vessels crusing randomly in the area. Without prior booking.
It was not a reference to a particular boat being a hazard.
I think you did quite well getting your boat nabbed and fenced by CRT as it reduces the likelihood of you having the misfortune to come across any moving boats in real life.
Some of the things modern Noddy boaters do are quite depressing, best stay out of it altogether I reckon.
An alternative to having the boat nicked is to do boating on parts of the network which are not overgrown idiot infested ditches.

I made a poem, just for you Tony xxx
Dunkers Junker is sitting in a field The nastiness of CRT has been revealed If you pass his mooring then keep ones eyes peeled For the sight of his caravan that may be concealed
Thank you

Please feel free not to follow me around the forum sniping ... it's boring for everyone. I know you have a lot of time on your hands now, but consider taking up a hobby ... flower arranging or maybe volunteering for the Samaritans Rog

The context of the thread is the section of the north Oxford after Braunston turn going towards Rugby.
Nobody is talking about wide boats on the other bits.

I reckon Tony was referring to the picture you posted of a widebeam craft with half a dozen topless young ladies in miniskirts.

If he intends taking a pop at someone, he certainly doesn't let little things like facts deter him.

Perhaps he wanted the practice?
