Coach line painting for us One more coat and the masking tape comes off. Rog brace yourself for a canal closure - unless that photo is a couple of days out of date, we arrived there yesterday! and on Friday will head on to the oxford.... I've only just had a proper look at the route and we're going to have to put in some longer days (than usual with punters) to get to the bottom of Foxton locks on Wed morning! eeeek

When you say bottom of Foxton by Wednesday morning, do you mean top? Unless your on the way back from Market Harborough?

I am a bit rubbish at remembering which way the pointy things on the map mean the locks are..
I mean we need to go Through the locks on Wed at some point to overnight close to the top and then have an easy amble into Market Harborough on Thursday Morning to give them the afternoon to explore before they leave on Friday morning...

Going towards M.H you go up Watford, down Foxton. Was quite slow and busy when we did this a month or so ago. I’d try and get on the lockkeepers list by midday. Union basin at M.H charge 12 quid a night includes hook-up. That’s electric not a dating service! Towpath can get busy.. if you want to use the basin mooring it’s best to pre book.

Cheers Ian - I assumed it would be CRT mooring bookable but on looking, have discovered it's Union Wharf and have emailed to request. Thanks for the heads up.

I used to live in Market Harboprough..its a lovely(or was) market town Enjoy your trip there. So long since Ive been. The locks at Braunceston are really heavy and I hated them and as for that tunnel.....watch out for the dog leg

The joys of Hillmorton, Braunston, Watford and Foxton locks in five days, plus a tunnel.
At least the kids are back at school next week so it will be less busy than it has been.

All the silver surfers come out in September under the illusion that it will be quieter after the schools go back. During a 3 hour wait for Grindley Brook a few years ago, the Lockie said the second Saturday (or was it Sunday) in September was traditionally the busiest day of the year for them.
