One of the things that Northern Powergen mentioned on the local news the other day after the storm was that after a while or virtually immediately people lost all means of communication by phone. The batteries in their cordless phones had flattened and base/or base units wouldn't work without power and the power outages had knocked the local mobile masts out too. The advice is indeed (if you have a working line) its always worth having a cheapo phone that you can plug direct into to a phone point for emergencies. (This will need an especially long lead if on a boat) However, if the local exchange is also without power… yes I think they do have backup batteries, but not for 4 days I suspect. Googling suggests that exchanges do indeed have back up power. The problem with DECT cordless phones is most dont have backup power for the base station so as soon as the power goes off the hand set wont work, (never mind only after four days). For the sake of a tenner or less we have one that we can pull out a drawer and plug in if needed.

They obviously don’t have lithium’s then.

I had another non-date with the welder and bought 2 pints of morreti in the Wayfarer - £11.56!!!
Once I'd gotten up off the floor, I made it last!
Tomorrow, I'm going back to Daventry to Electrastart place with the faulty alternator so they can "match it" and then I'm gonna drive it back to the supplier rather than pay £30 quid plus carriage for it to be insured...
BSS is booked for 7th, covid booster for 14th and I REALLY do need to get on with 2023 routes and my tax return -

You might think it … and you’d be correct, the difference is an e. Anyway, you are slipping - you missed another deliberate mistake. passed. No, "past" is correct, it serves as an adverb where the verb has been omitted from the sentence, i.e. "We drove past four boats"

Hope marina life is working out okay. Rog

Glorious morning.
Did a cruise in reverse for about a quarter of a mile to get to a decent mooring for the poorly pooch. Then phoned CRT to tell them I would probably/possibly be overstaying on a 2 day mooring and the reason why.
I remember when those were designated 48 hours and out of season that was extended to the normal 14 days. Sad to see this has obviously been abused.
Awaiting contact from the local Enforcement Officer now. The lovely girl on the phone said I can stay here unless and until I hear from him.....

Other than at honeypot sites such as Llangollen in the Summer, I don't think CRT enforce 48 hour moorings, the date checker just comes around once a fortnight same as nearly everywhere else.

The 48hr moorings are mainly monitored by rangers or volunteers every day, but not between November and February. ( though saying that, crt have lost most of the volunteers that participated).

Have the 48’s been designated to all year there?

Yes, I appreciate what you're saying. However, having had the lovely Liz knock on my boat (mad woman - didn't she read about her poor, dead colleague?) in Stourport this summer because my paper licence was out of date, I know that there are some who can't wait to report you ... In 14 years of ccing I have NEVER taken the whatsit/overstayed and the last thing I need just now is a jobsworth - and this is sadly an area which has been/is still being abused.

He promised that 48 hr and short stay mooring would be consulted on before any changes. There is no reason whatsoever to have short stay mooring during winter, except for shopping mooring and facilities. His words, nobody else’s.
