Other than at honeypot sites such as Llangollen in the Summer, I don't think CRT enforce 48 hour moorings, the date checker just comes around once a fortnight same as nearly everywhere else. The 48hr moorings are mainly monitored by rangers or volunteers every day, but not between November and February. ( though saying that, crt have lost most of the volunteers that participated). I was told by a volunteer that CRT can't actually USE the data collected by them, it is merely "advisory" and not able to be used in any legal case.

Yes. New signage stipulating "2 days ALL YEAR". Hmmm. I’d write to parry, ask what reason is given for such change. He promised that 48 hr and short stay mooring would be consulted on before any changes. There is no reason whatsoever to have short stay mooring during winter, except for shopping mooring and facilities. His words, nobody else’s. To be fair, it has been abused (I think it still is, hence the "reverse" cruise this morning when one of the usual suspects moved off). Mainly because of the easy road access - which is precisely why I need it right now as the old dog can't cope with steps any more.

Most of the rangers/volunteers were locals who believed their participation would rid the area of boats. Once they realised this was not going to happen, they left.

Glorious morning. Did a cruise in reverse for about a quarter of a mile to get to a decent mooring for the poorly pooch. Then phoned CRT to tell them I would probably/possibly be overstaying on a 2 day mooring and the reason why. I remember when those were designated 48 hours and out of season that was extended to the normal 14 days. Sad to see this has obviously been abused. Awaiting contact from the local Enforcement Officer now. The lovely girl on the phone said I can stay here unless and until I hear from him..... When I contacted the local enforcement officer when my mutt was ill and I thought I might need to overstay, I was only treated with kindness and permission.
Hope you are treated the same.

I did wonder why hotspots such as Audlem have been devoid of them for the last couple of years ...

In any event, if you time arrival and departure right you can stay almost five days on a 48 hour mooring. CRT's own interpretation is this...
* Recorded stay time: is measured by the number of daily sightings between the first and latest sighting. A boat recorded on two consecutive days will be treated as having stayed for 24 hours. A boat recorded on three consecutive days will be treated as having stayed for 48 hours.

Thank you. The girl on the phone was lovely; I'm sure if the local enforcement guy contacts me it will be much the same.

That's exactly why I contacted them. This is an area well known for p-takers. I have already been told by local boaters "as long as you're not here on every second Tuesday when the number taker comes you'll be fine"...

Lovely winter morning - sun and blue skies - and really mild. Perfect for a short, lonely cruise. Having moored up and gone out walking I was shocked but pleasantly surprised to see some friends* on the locks - they don't live that locally but they had a cruise out along this stretch with us a few weeks ago and were so taken with the area they came out this way for their Sunday walk. Certainly never expected to bump into me here today, poor souls!! What a coincidence, and made for a distracting and pleasant few hours..... Also did my good deed for the day in assisting the fuel boat and a.n.other up the flight. It's a funny old life (* made friends with them after just chatting on the towpath where they DO live!)

Another glorious day, despite the forecast. A peaceful cruise through some beautiful countryside, passing just a couple of feet from a nonchalant kingfisher resplendent in the sunshine. Pottered on up a couple of locks and have now found an isolated mooring for the foreseeable. I walked to the stupidmarket in the dark this morning to stock up so that I don't have to engage with any more until this is all over. Believe I have enough diesel and coal for at least four or more weeks, food and water as long as I can make it last (a good ten to 20 days and if things get worse I can easily stretch that - have yet to try kippers and custard!) but... .... but what a beautiful winter's day it was out here........ Hope the good people keep safe and well x

Yet another lovely day...
The weather was most certainly not kind so I only crept up another couple of locks - but it was great to encounter so many long unseen yet familiar faces through here. Fond memories shared with a few old boating acquaintances - glad to see so many of us still alive and locking!
After all the reminiscing (and some very impromptu gift giving) one of the memorable farewells was "well, see you again some time, know we will and look forward to it".
I know why I live on a boat.
