But have energy bill increased for people living off grid? Sun is still free. Petrol has gone up about 30%. Coal has gone up due to profiteering, not sure how much but let’s say 50%. Plenty of free wood around.
Meanwhile domestic (mains) gas has gone up about 500% over the past couple of years, grid electricity by over 200%.
So do off-gridders need the same sort of support that on-gridders need? If so, why?

I thought the whole point of "living off grid" was that you are not dependant on elecricity or gas to the same extent as anyone who lives in a flat or house

If it was assistance with general cost of living rises they were missing out on they'd have an argument, but the assistance is aimed at paying on grid electric and gas I believe.
Mind you I suspect lots of people are going to need help across the board over the next year or so.

I think you’ll find the £400 is to help with increased fuel costs, which we are all facing.

Should it be £400 though, the cost of coal/diesel has not risen as much as domestic gas/electric..
£400 for our home would cover 6 weeks energy bills, if i was living on the boat still i would imagine that would have lasted me the winter for gas/coal/diesel if i had been cautious.

Tower Hamlets offered me £150. I pay the lowest band council tax as only live on a boat and nobody in their right mind would want to do that as it is not luxurious enough.
Also I don't have mains gas connection so that could have been noticed. I have been thinking about applying for this as the mooring is residential with full PP and land address etc. It would be interesting to see what the gas company did about it. This boat is staying here for the foreseeable.

Not just boaters! People who live off grid. Estimated by the gov. at 400,000, many in rural areas like the Highlands of Scotland.

People in cities tend to forget there are people who live in rural areas. Anyway according to people on here they don’t deserve the money because they don’t pay electric bills to a utility company.

If you are living off grid then you have no connection to either mains gas or mains electricity. although I have shore power which increases my electricity bill for the winter a 100% increase in my winter electric price (based on 2021 winter) would be about an extra £110
(continued cos I pressed the wrong button)
I have already bought my winters diesel (after most of the increase ) and that has cost me nearly £200 extra.
I heat a large boat that is not insulated to the best possible standard (although it's not that bad) and I don't like being cold.
I also burn wood which mostly costs me work, time and transport.
I cannot imagine that this is much different to the average "off grid" dwelling

The £400 energy grant doesn't put anyone in any debt as it's not required to be paid back.
The original £200 energy rebate that this scheme replaced had been due to been repaid but was scrapped.
