Although to be fair the banking crisis hadn't yet occurred when it was proposed. The Tories turned it into the fiasco we have today.

Tories gave approval for HS2, Tories failed to control costs of HS2, Tories cancelled HS2.

Sad that our first response is to seek to blame rather than assess what's best for the country.
I suppose that's why our nation's politics remains on a downward spiral.

It should never have gone ahead in the first place, but then the idiot Gordon Brown (the dopey labour cunt who sold all our gold reserves) was a cumbersome oaf. The tories should have stopped it the moment they got into power, and used the money to substantially upgrade the system in place.
NEVER LABOUR.

Hs2 has done its job, opened up office space in Birmingham and made money for the usual suspects. Lots of land already compulsory purchased, route cancelled. Land sold for a profit, result.

HS2 achieved its purpose; created lots of fat contracts and consultancy opportunities for friends of The Party which will never need to be fulfilled; champers and hampers everyone!
FUCK THE TORIES

I'm all in favour of HS2. Let's face it, the countryside is very boring with just trees and animals and scenery and stuff and I've never seen one bit of it which wouldn't become far more interesting with a high speed train whizzing through it at 200mph.

Anyway, instead of scrapping it, they should put Dogless in charge of it, then we'd have the trains running a year earlier.

And if any of that annoying nature shit gets in the way the cheapest thing is to just pour used engine oil over it. Sorted.

Jts a bit nasty to cover birds with oil as they can't fly.
This makes them a lot less fun to shoot.

The foxes and badgers love it though. Just pour it down the hole. Makes their coats all shiny.

What makes things even worse is the fact that it was cancelled just because of a change of mind - so much for sticking with long term decisions.
If it was cancelled because we couldn't afford it then that may have been justified.

Maybe a tad justified then. There has been a teensy weensy global recession thingy and we are in a proxy war with Russia. Which is costing a bit. Also the other day there was a headline about that old chestnut 'the national debt' which didn't sound great.
