Its a tough call🤷🏽♂️ Do I risk my money, time, ego & fragile reputation, just to be besmirched as scum by kris 🙄, for attempting to buy and restore a ‘historical important’ boat, or to just leave it as is to rot even further into the ground, more than it has the last couple of years, because a pisstaking tosser lost his pathetic battle with CRT?

Apparently Mersey is only £20,000 now www.apolloduck.com/boat/yarwoods-short-boat-for-sale/731902Sounds like it needs a new bottom, must be substantial work needed for a £30,000 reduction. Wye was replated before it came out of service. Oh well looks like crt/bw have killed another two historic boats.

The price just needs to fall a wee bit further and then it may be worth the bother. If you can weld.
I wonder if you would be allowed to do the work in-situ.

I’m sure you could do the work there if you paid them enough. But I wonder if they have a power supply close to the boat. It’s cost me £20,000 to rebottom my boat doing the work myself with help. If you where paying a yard to do it I reckon it would be £35,000 at least so as you say the price has to drop for it to be worthwhile.

It looks like they won't let it go without the work being done.
I've got a feeling it might be scrap. The dangers of overplating rather than replating and also unattended boats.
"following a recent hull condition survey the hull will require some substantial fabrication before it is put back into the water."
I know the Environment Agency policy is to only sell this sort of craft to someone who can provide a written statement and proof of finance to indicate what is going to happen to it.
Point is if someone wants a cheap boat and pays £20k then gets it on water it will probably end up another S8 so from the CRT point of view it may be better to scrap it.

Mersey (Arthur) was advertised for £80k and sold quite quickly in 2011 but that was a number of yars ago.
Hells teeth tempus fugit.
I must be nearly 50!

I wonder who commissioned the survey.
What is the light iron scrap price like at the moment ?
Has it been deliberately condemned I wonder.

The trick would be to negotiate use of the premises as part of the sale agreement.

In my opinion the widebeam surcharge is going to mean a decline in the number of old working widebeams on the water. The number of people willing to take boats like these on was small enough to begin with.

I can't help feeling that you are falling into the Tony Dunkley trap of describing boats removed from the waterways under the Section 8 procedure as "stolen". They are not stolen. Would you refuse to buy a house if, at some point in the past, it had been repossessed? If a fuel supplier went bust and its stocks of diesel were seized, would you refuse to put that diesel in your boat?
