Β Its a tough callπ€·π½ββοΈ Do I risk my money, time, ego & fragile reputation, just to be besmirched as scum by kris π, for attempting to buy and restore a βhistorical importantβ boat, Β or to just leave it as is Β to rot even further into the ground, Β more than it has the last couple of years, Β because a pisstaking tosser lost his pathetic battle with CRT? Andy my boat was a repossession, a pisstaker bought it didnt buy a license, didnt pay HP on it. He got caught by BW a year later, boat towed off HP company recovered it and nobody wanted it! Anyway I offered 40K, it was originally up for 100K and i bought it for 48K. Now the only person to blame for this is the idiot that didn't pay his debts, the boat is worth more than I paid for it, so go ahead you know it makes sense

Well, after having access to the full survey and speaking with my fabricating pal, I was all ready to head over and do a cash deal yesterday. However, having reading back through the thread, I came to the conclusion that my fragile ego couldnβt face the thought of Kris or those protesting NBTA freeloading tossers thinking me βas scumβ or βwithout moralsβ π so Ive decided to leave poor Mersey to rot into its grave at Chester!π©
Shame really, had some good plans for her! π’
In other news, went to look at a 2006 Liverpool Boat that my boat lodger is interested in today, hopefully she will be putting a cash bid in and moving out of nb Baz in the next month or so, meaning Iβll have something to focus my winter months on.π
Anyone want to buy a great 57β traditional live-aboard?π

If Id of gone ahead with the purchase Id of been happy to pay the price asked, if need be, subject to having it where it currently is for work to be completed.π

Mersey is the definition of the term 'can of worms'. It is a big boat. There is a lot of it. I really like it a lot and the cabin has been well executed, nice engine etc.
It was over plated. I would estimate (as an outsider with no clues other than it was down south until 2012) that this was carried out 25 or 30 yars ago. It could well have been more recent.
Over Plating. Not Re Plating.
Nightmare situation.
There are plenty of yards who will glue some plates on over the old stuff to make a few quid but they have no interest whatsoever in the long term viability of the boat its just profit for the business. Fair enough.
In reality a boat like the Mersey could be really badly fucked in a number of different ways.
Nice boat though..
a bit wide.

Also Β£20k may not be an asking price. The butty Argus which was advertised by CBS for Β£5k sold for more than Β£13k.
Out of interest the Mersey was called Arthur when it was down south.

On boatshed a number of yars ago. I think this was around 2011. Interesting to know how they got the 6 pot Perkins in there - did the engine room get cut ? grandunion.boatshed.com/barge_wide_beam-boat-172521.html"Iron hull, much has been overplated with steel. Round bottomed, very low draft, water ballast." Not convinced it is iron but anyway... Water ballast seems interesting ! I don't know if this stems from a lack of knowledge but if an over plated boat has a wet bilge Bad Shit happens.

I sent your link to my fabricating mate who served his apprenticeship at Cammell Laird and has since gone on to build numerous dutch barges, wide-beams and narrowboat shells, plus upwards of 15 years plating / fabricating cures to serious boat issues.π He passes on his thanks and bows to your greater experience!π ππ

I can't help feeling that you are falling into the Tony Dunkley trap of describing boats removed from the waterways under the Section 8 procedure as "stolen". Im amazed, with all the moaning CRT are doing about being skint that they only ever steal old worthless pieces of shit like Wyr, Mersey, Halcyon Daze, etc Why they dont steal quality boats, Hudsons / Brinklows etc to sell on, is beyond me?π€·π½ββοΈ

Maybe they haven't yet figured out a way to snatch licensed boats.
Mersey is interesting to watch. I wonder if my prediction will come true.
There are signs on the satellite view of boats having been dismantled there before but probably not solid ones like that.
Hopefully someone will save it.
