Amazing! I wonder what that big tunnel was in the centre of the hole? An old rail tunnel?

Water coming out would suggest a sewer. I've seen buses swallowed like this in London, it starts with a loose brick soil behind is washed away, then another brick and another and so on to the point of collapse Phil

Whilst I can't comment on foreign countries, if you have ever tried tunneling significant tunnels in the UK you would not think this was possibly caused by tunneling. People learnt from this www.theguardian.com/uk/2000/jul/06/keithharperTime to get away from the rail theme and back to canals...

Oi! Find yer own links, matey I posted about that a couple of days ago! In connection mentioning how the re-opening of the Calder & Hebble Canal at Elland Bridge took 6 months! However, the Japanese were very beastly to their prisoners during the Second World War, so fuck 'em! We'll do things our way (ie. very slowly)

I don't remember it but do wonder whether this advertising campaign would go down so well nowadays... The day after the bus incident, following the publication of photos in national newspapers, Cadbury's began using the photo with the catchline 'Nothing fills a hole like a Double Decker', in reference to the company's chocolate bar. The advert won a series of awards and international recognition.

My brother got married on a Friday in the RC Cathedral on Earlham Road. I wasn't aware there was a CoE and RC Cathedral in Norwich nor that his fiancée was RC - we spent a chilled hour in the Adam and Eve, walked to the CoE Cathedral only to find it swarming with tourists and school kids and no wedding party in site. Had to drive rather briskly thru town to make the ceremony. Oh how we laughed!
