I expect this was talked about at the time of her death and I don't really do tributes/fluffy bunny stuff but I was sent this link today by a friend because of the similarities between my wife and Jo Cox (size, age of death, mountaineering, sense of adventure etc etc); www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/nov/23/jo-cox-friends-energy-for-life-was-immeasurableReason for posting is that please try to remember that not all politicians are self serving lying bastards. This bit showed how Jo Cox cared about others; And there’s no friend who shows the slightest hint of surprise about that final act of kindness, revealed in court, of protecting her colleagues with the shout of “get away you two – let him hurt me”.

I agree, I can't see any good in an 'all life sentence' - other than to stop the execution crowd.

The judge said. "Mair would have to serve a whole-life sentence due to the “exceptional seriousness” of the offence: a murder committed to advance a cause associated with Nazism." About the extreme rightwing terrorist. I am unsure about exceptional seriousness, ok it was a brutal murder but psychopath Michael Stone who was convicted of the double murder of mum, daughter and dog. Lyn and Megan with the hammer is serving three life sentences but could be released after 25 years in prison. Personally I would call that more severe, so was it the connection with Nazism the bit that made the judge give him full life or is it the fact she was an MP. I Will add stone to this day maintains his innocence. Let's not forget Ian Huntly only received a minimum term of forty years. Apparently there is now 64 prisoners currently serving whole life sentences. Only 100 have been given. Some were reduced on appeal and the rest died in prison.

If you look at the Michael Stone case in detail, you'd have to say that there are some worrying aspects to the safety of his conviction.

There are some crimes so bad that the perpetrator must loose their right to live in a free society. The Jo Cox killer being one, and I would include others such as Ian Huntley, Myra Hindley, Ian Brady and Fred & Rose West. These types of people should stay in prison for ever.

See 'Yes Minister' for definition of 'courageous' And him to be courageous for him to leave, there could be certain folk looking for him when he gets out.

I personally strongly disagree with capital punishment, but think whole life sentences are what are needed to replace the rope.

Thompson and Venables are both on life long licences. However there identity and whereabouts are unknown. They were out ws once and I'm sure at some point they will again. Hopefully someone gets them before they are given new names again.

Do they have to agree not to see their mother for example? Nobody can excuse this kind of evil behaviour but it does make you wonder to what degree marketing brainwashing and childhood abuse has an effect on the upbringing of children. Parents have a huge responsibility, but then again so does the 'system' which allows the promotion of evil films and video games to children. Ultimately, we as individuals have the biggest responsibilty. Even a 10 year old has a sense of right or wrong. It's called imagining how you'd feel if someone did it to you.

Yeah, all the kids that get on my bus are clutching expensive 'intelligent phones' - even the 7 year olds. Frightening to think little kids have telephones in their mitts - they can phone anywhere with 'em. They seem mostly preoccupied with playing games though. Gone are the times of reading a book at the bus stop or on the bus on your way to/from school. I haven't given any of 'em the Thunderboat address, don't want those cretins on here I am old fashioned and think that many parents these days are incompetent, and the schools have their hands (and teachers' pensions!) tied with all this Politically Correct crap. I suppose those kids have to grow up somehow, though, they will soon learn a fist in their faces corrects their vision of how far they can go, also when they're skint and the local shop won't give them any energy drinks for free.

I do not know, however the ukpps a department of the NCA deal with witness protection. But local police force administer it. I can only add that their new identities were because the authorities felt that they would be in immediate danger. They can probaly see who they like. Depending on their licences but if they want to remain alive I guess they have zero contact. The home office once spent 13000 on an induction as someone was about to blow their cover and a man who put on of their pictures of Twitter was given a suspended sentance. To paraphrase I guess they can see mummy but as soon as they are recognised they might be in trouble. Thats if mummy wants to see them? They spent a reported :up to 50 million" on giving and looking after maxine carr.
