I am intending fitting a cigar lighter. Going to run the cable in 6mm, unless otherwise advised, but what is the best/safest way of connecting at the battery end of the boat.
Alternatively the socket will be about 6' from the fridge which is on its own circuit, could i spur off this or is that a real no-no. Not at the boat at the moment but think the fridge is in 6mm.

At the risk of your answer being the obvious one. I shall ask anyway. What will you be using it for??

bugger I'm having problems hit the home button instead of post and sent my reply into oblivion.
cigar lighters are rated at up to 25 amps (cigarette lighters a bit less) what type and rating are you using? Spurring off another circuit is not a good idea. How long is the cable run from socket to distribution panel? (I suspect you are going to need thicker cable)

If its just for charging a tablet or a camera battery, I would spur of a he most convinient circuit and 6mm cable would do the job. Bit different if you want to light King Edwards with it!!

Whatever the intended use today that could always change in the future. You don't find 13A sockets wired up with a 5A breaker because they'll only have a lamp plugged in. If you fit a 25A socket then it should be cabled and fused for 25A.

I am always a bit leary about treating circuits in that way ...... if you put a 15Amp socket somewhere wired up and fused for 6 Amp sure as eggs is eggs some bugger will come along and put a 15 Amp fuse in it (or if they're like the lot round here foil)

How long will the cable run be from the fuse board to this socket? 10m If that is 10m out and 10m back ... fused at 15A ....... should be 16mm2 cable to give a volt drop of less than 3% (0.32V)
