Some of us are still celebrating having moved on from carrier pigeon to a mobile phone.
I use text mostly, but that's as smart as my phone gets.
They always told me, when I was working, that computers would be our slaves.
I actually found that in reality, it was the other way around.

Rog Yes, I agree, it's definitely the other way around, it's us that have become the slaves.
Smatphones are quite something, they are small size computers really nowadays, and you can use them to phone with aswell.
I would love a much simpler version of a Smartphone, whithout all the (for me) useless games and apps that I'll never use, and that make the phones unnecessary complicated, and surely more expensive too.
It's a bit like being obliged to buy a more expensive convertable car, while knowing for sure that you'll never fold the top down.
Peter.

And the bloomin' batteries are always going flat (well Jane's is).
A simple phone you charge every 3 or 4 days or so (have left it longer). But Jane's can need charging twice a day!

peeps mainly use smartphones and tablets (not forgetting laptops and PCs) to send tweets, check the train times and play games on; why do we use an antiquated name like 'computers' that brings a vision of flashing coloured lights and punched tape?
is it not time that the world found a new and more appropriate generic name for them? Maybe 'communicator' or 'infohub'.

Go along with all that ..... mine makes phone calls and sends receives texts ....... that's it I am told that mine sends texts but I haven't figured out how to do it yet. Samsung clamshell, about the same size as my car key fob. just for fun I sent off for a credit card phone from China. Cost £6, nano Sim from O2 for 99p. Does calls and texts, it's 4mm thick and fits into one of those credit card slots in my wallet. why do peeps (mainly females) carry a heavy glass screen thing around in their hand all the time, occasionally dropping it on the pavement or down the loo?

Fashion victims ! Hey, look at me. I've just spent a trillion pounds on the latest phone for an extra button.

Go along with all that ..... mine makes phone calls and sends receives texts ....... that's it It will slide off a surface and soon be at the bottom of the North Sea and then you will have to get a smartphone. Trouble with smartphones is they are continually doing what their masters want them to do (and that's not the person who bought it). Updating without your permission, and sending all your movements, texts and photos back to Beijing for analysis.

another clone thread matching the other side. not all of us even bother to look on the other channel. It's not obligatory to read or even post in a thread. I see you've enjoyed adding your two penneth to this thread. So it wasn't so bad for a mere clone a thread?

I want to Unentangle my self from the digital world, not get more entangled. In fact I'm hoping for some severe sun spot activity to wipe it all out. But I sippose I might have to live in hope of that. Nothing wrong with living in hope, lots of Dutch barge names have hope (written "Hoop" in Dutch) in their names.
Peter.
I'm gonna live in hope...Horror House being renamed to Hope Cottage

I got my first smart one last year, mainly to use for tethering, but almost immediately and much to my surprise, I stopped using the laptop altogether. They really are very good.
