How much have you covered? Do you stay in a local area or do you constantly move? On the T&M and Coventry there is quite a few boats that move round in a 10 to15 mile stretch.

That question has got me thinking ........ I've not covered some big stretches yet (hopefully soon) but I have travelled fairly extensively. I really can't decide on a favourite ........ I'm tempted towards the small fenland rivers that I explored this last summer but I have also spent a very pleasant time up on the big northern canals.
I prefer the more "bucolic" waters to the urban canals but a favourite ? ........ I don't know.

Often your favourite canal is the one you're on.

Phil ☺ I loved the Wissey (and the Little Ouse) in fact I found the Fenlands delightful but way, way back I loved the Stort. (I reckon it's got too busy for my taste nowadays) There are sections of the L&L that are wonderful and some of the top bits of the T&M and then of course there is the Weaver .......... I dunno ......... The Chesterfield is lovely ..... if it wasn't for the bloody weed ! ........ I told you, I can't make up my mind !!! I'll probably be even more undecided after I have travelled more of the system . (Oh lord, I forgot the Birmingham and Fazeley .... sigh what name was the pub .... Dog and Doublet?)

I did ten years cruising the system single handed but missed out the northern parts. Have done virtually all the system between Bath in the west, Bedford in the east, Ellesmere Port in the North and Godalming in the south. That was in the late 90s and early 00s.
I've done Wigan flight when I bought a boat at the bottom of the flight and had to move it to Botany Bay for craneage.
I found that I tended just to stay on the GU south and Thames and as I now have boats wider than 7ft this is where I stay, well in London now mainly.

Lancaster canal when we had our trail boat, sections of the l&l and peak forest/macc with that too. Since then have done the northern ring a couple of times from Rochdale Summit. York twice, Ripon once. Out west as far as Beeston Castle, Bridgewater, T&M, Weaver, Shroppie. Ring from Rochdale Summit east to the trent, round via Nottingham, Stoke on T&M, Macc, Peak Forest, back home. Llangollen on a hire boat. Rochdale Summit to Albert Dock Liverpool. Lots of shorter out and back trips, usually east as far as Wakefield, Stanley Ferry.
