Well this makes a refreshing change, people who agree that ecofans work. On analworld the deniers would be howling by now, despite being offered evidence and asked to explain the evidence. I have one on the woodstove at home, it's brilliant. Boat is small enough not to need it. They don't do anything. Just eye candy. Complete waste of money. Rubbish. Junk. Snakeoil. I wouldn't touch one with my barge pole.

And I'm happy for you to pop into our boat and feel the warm air being pushed across the room by the fan. That propellor-thingy is spinning like crazy, it has to be doing something. Why do you think I'm thinking of getting another one, then?

No! No! No! I don't want my warm air wafted round thank you very much !!! The warmest part of the (open plan) saloon and galley area is where the armchairs are it gets nice and toasty quickly (that is where the radiators are) the rest of the room is slightly cooler, you don't want the galley as warm as the sitting areas !!! suppose it might have been useful when I used solid fuel !!!

I inherited one with the boat but I don't use it because it works. I want, like John, heat at the heat end gradually cooling to the bed end. If I use the fan it spreads the heat around too much.
It got much more annoying after I improved it by pointing the fan upwards at about 30 degs so it pushes the hot air up top rather than shuffling the middle layer around at stove top height.

did you put a diesel boiler in or convert the Rayburn to oil ? diesel boiler installed in the engine room, Rayburn and log stove still installed and operational if needed. (Rayburn would be serious hassle to remove, anyway I like the look of it)

Ok Doubters, explain why, with an ecofan on my stove the kettle won't boil, without , it will boil. Without the fan there is uneven temperature in the room, with fan, temperature is even, and warm air spreads around the house if we leave doors open. Come on, don't be shy, you're not in analworld now. Where is the differential in heat going?

I guess in a boat don't need to waft warm air if u like staying snug by the stove, however I had to try and sort out continuous alarm here due to all the hot air rising to heat sensor...didnt feel safe removing it as heating is all solid fuel with wood burner and Rayburn

Bloke who bought the boat didn't want it so he broke it up in situ and carried out in pieces ! I put the Rayburn in with a friend using planks and rollers (cut up broom handle) in one piece (minus doors and hotplate). Best part of 300kg !! Would be bloody difficult to get it back out in one piece.

Our eco fan also sits atop the stove spinning away merrily to itself. When it spins slow I know I need to tend the fire, When it spins fast, I know the stove is doing well.
Thats all i've ever noticed with it. I've tried it with and without and find no difference at all throughout the boat, in the galley, in the bedrooms, in the saloon.
Some people think they work which is good, some people dont think they work which is also good.
For me its just an expensive stove heat indicator which I have had for several years

We bought it when we bought Lady Elgar which wouldve been about 10 years ago now. I think the word on the street was that they were the must have thing for stoves. It has lasted well so I guess you could say i've had my monies worth of a stove heat indicator

Come on, don't be shy, you're not in analworld now. Where is the differential in heat going? I find that hard to believe, that your kettle won't boil because the ecofan takes too much heat away. I think the top of the stove is hot enough to drive both ecofan and kettle. I've got enough on my list of things to do, so I'm not going to make a note about trying this.
