Bit of a mix between this thread and the one about bumping into other boats.
Whenever I get things wrong and bump another boat (always with sincere apologies) I'm reminded of this memory....
Leaving Jersey on a Sealink RoRo Ferry in stormy weather, something went wrong and the ship careered into about 20 very expensive yachts, only taking their foremasts of though. Next thing was that there was an over correction (panic) and the ship more or less approached the harbour wall sideways, well water has to go somewhere and many passengers got very wet! Glad that day that I was only a pleb and not the captain!

I have just resurrected an old phone due to dropping one in the water and I've found a picture I took from a ferry coming into Dover in 2014. Its one of the rather large dockside shock absorbers. Someone obviously hit it - hard enough to dislodge it then someone else craned it out onto the side . Had a look on MAIB and it was an incident in which several passengers were hurt. I now like to leave it to the last moment when I know the ferry has successfully docked before returning to my vehicle ! Attachments:
