You seem to have an extremely sick sense of humour foxy, although this time you didn't suggest to poke their eyes out, so there may still be some hope for you.

I had forgotten about Fasching, lasts longer than most carnivals, always was a good excuse for a beer or ten when I lived there.

You are right Foxy they will be screaming for Trump and our help if something goes wrong but feel its ok to insult countries stupid people that know no better, and yes I have lived there whilst in the ARMY and had a lovely german girlfriend I was based in Germany too when I served in the Dutch Nato troups for 4 years (jan'67-jan'71) during the "cold war", and when I went there I hated all these bloody Germans, mainly because my father and a bunch of other family members and friends had a terrible time during the war because of them, and for them they were all barstewards of the worst kind.
It didn't take long once I was based there to have to change my mind about the Germans, they were ever so nice and helpful, and always let us have fun with their lovely daughters, and we were often invited to have meals with them in their houses.
Of course they were rarely of the same generation as the ones that invaded our countries between '39 and '45, and I don't think that it's fair to still blaim them for what their ancesters did so many years ago.
About 10 years after the war, there were reunions of war-fighter pilots of all the countries and Germans too, and they all respected each other, I don't know if they still have these reunions as there won't be many left nowadays.
Peter.

There have been many atrocities perpetrated throughout history and continue in this modern day..different countries..untold suffering on innocents as history repeats itself. What the Germans did dreadful but to allow their past actions to affect our relationship with them now is to remain in the past. We can all hold onto bitterness..but ultimately the only person that damages is self. We have one crack at the whip..one walk through life...I ain't gonna let what I have left for me be affected by the past..anyones past. Its not going to sour my thoughts...and for me thats on a personal basis as well as global. It doesn't mean I bury my head cos i don't..I studied history up to A level and although I chose not to follow a lot of the news, I don't block it all out. I can see why you are upset/angry/ and if thats right for you then guess thats ok but equally if others chose to not let the past affect their future than thats ok. Im probably putting this very clumsily..I just feel if we all hang onto what happened in the past we will all end up embittered individuals.

Hanging onto the past is not a good thing, just look at the fervent supporters of King Billy. Phil

Forget the mistakes and traumas of the past they are gone. Just look forward to the mistakes and traumas of the future. Most importantly you have to try to spend most of your energy on the mistakes you are making right now.

Its at moments like these that I like to recall the words of the late great General Melchett on the German matter.
Darling: So you see, Blackadder, Field Marshal Haig is most anxious to eliminate all these German spies.
Melchett: Filthy Hun weasels fighting their dirty underhand war!
Darling: And, fortunately, one of *our* spies--
Melchett: Splendid fellows, brave heroes, risking life and limb for Blighty!
